Hi Ruffdawg,

Do you still have some of this original Halston, and on what basis might I get hold of some of it? I started using Z-14 in 1984 (having first experienced it worn by a girl!). Every now and then, on holiday, I’ll find a bottle in a bargain basket in US drug stores, but the new stuff, which I bought a year ago, is nowhere near as special.

Maybe that’s the key: it needs to be approached as a whole new frag.
Even the Man version has NOTHING to do with the Z-14 it is supposed to be updating. (OK maybe after 4 to 5 hours there is a vague “memories of Z-14″ moment)

But in person, the man’s bottle in platinum looks like an very chic flask. Wonder if Tiffany has it as a flask???

I just went to buy the Halston Man today (I could not resist the Elsa Peretti bottle in platinum) and while waiting for the SA I spritzed myself with the Woman. WOW! I am going back tomorrow to buy the Woman .
I have never had a chance to smell the original, but this…. it smells like the love child of CD J’adore and Shiseido’s Féminité du bois with a finish that brings to mind Fendi (the original)
I love it.

Halston has been reformulated. I have MANY bottles of vintage Halston, in parfum (i have about 4 ounces) & cologne strength (i have about 20 oz). I also have vintage Halston Couture cologne (I have 35 ounces of that one) I also have a few full size vintage Halston talcs. All of the perfumes & colognes i own smell great, just as they should, I take my fragrance collection seriously, my bottles are stored properly in cool, dark places. Although you can notice slight variations from each Halston bottle to the next, because they are from back when the juice was made with natural ingredients & each batch was slightly different from the next. I’d like to send you a few samples of each the perfume & the cologne so you can experience the differences Im speaking of, one might be slightly more green, one slightly more peppery, etc. But they are nothing like the reformulated Halston that is available today from E. Arden co., the new stuff smells like violets & other flowers to me, nothing at all like the original Halston. I love the scent, but I never wear it. I’d be very happy to send you as many samples of Halston if you’d like. I wont charge you anything for the juice, all I’d ask is that you send me the vials/containers (as many as you would like filled, they dont have to be tiny, I will be generous, especially with the colognes) as I dont have decanting supplies & also a few stamps for the return postage, depending on how many samples are to be mailed. I will be posting an article on reformulations tomorrow, as it happens…the old Halston probably wasn’t selling and it may not have been compliant w/ new regulations anyway.

Why do you think companies open up a can of worms by reformulating perfumes that don’t need it? Poor sales?
