MAC Creations Hue Africanimal and Naked Honey ~ new perfumes

MAC Creations Hue Africanimal & Naked Honey perfumes

MAC has launched two new limited edition fragrances in the Creations Hue range: Africanimal and Naked Honey.

Creations Hue: Africanimal (shown above left) ~ “A scent that starts with a honeyness that’s seductive and, given its dash of pepper, not without spice. Add a dark kiss of bergamot and wood, and an aromatic orgy breaks out to create a scent that’s all honey but far from sweet.”

Creations Hue: Naked Honey (shown above right) ~ “An aromatic journey that traces honey’s fragrant heart back to summer’s sweetest blooms. Energy starts to buzz, spirits soar, light floral and woodsy notes float toward an electric finale. Sweet and sexy all the way.”

MAC Creations Hue Africanimal and Naked Honey are available now at Nordstrom, Dillards, or at the MAC website, in 20 ml, concentration unknown, $25 each. (via nordstrom)

“Honeyness.” I like that. Actually, Africanimal sounds good.

MAC usually does a good job, esp. given the bargain prices. I’d like to try both of these.

They do sound good. I like the bottles, too; they remind me both of honeycomb and of giraffes, somehow.

Very cool. I haven’t tried any MAC fragrances before – these seem to be a good place to start.

I think they’re generally pretty good for what they are — not brilliant, but wearable & cheap.

They both sound pretty interesting. I’d like to try both. I have a feeling I’d probably lean more towards Naked Honey, though. I’ve never tried any of the MAC’s fragrances either, but the prices are good and the scents seem very inviting.

Will be interesting to smell them both…honey can be “difficult” in some perfumes.

These sounds like good fun fragrances. (Why am I imagining wearing these to the zoo?) Just a little worried about attracting bees…

    • Robin
      Posted on 9 June 2009

Hope they are fun! And don’t attract bees ;-)

They could be nice in a cheap ‘n cheerful kind of way (but for some reason, “Africanimal” makes me think of “Grranimal”)

      Posted on 9 June 2009

LOL…that was the first thing I thought of too.

    I want to try Africanimal

In the words of Rachel Ray “yum-o”! I want both!

LOL — does she say that?? That’s funny.

I think I’m a party pooper on this one… honey is too sweet and food-y for my liking (the same problem I have with vanilla scents). Though the “aromatic orgy” part of the description is good for a chuckle!

Honey is perfume always sounds unappealing to me. But I do like perfumes with honey (Ambre Russe is very honeyed to me), so I would like to give Africanimal a try.
I hope it has lots of pepper

I won’t rule out trying it if I’m passing an MAC counter. Maybe I’d like it more than I anticipate. I’ll spritz on anything at least once! :) And I do like those fun bottles…

    • Robin
      Posted on 9 June 2009

Could turn out that way, who knows! I’ll give them a shot.

Definitely trying these – I love honey! If they do a good job of it, anyway.

A non-sweet honey sounds brill. Any chance of them being available in the UK?

    • Robin
      Posted on 9 June 2009

I’m sorry, I know nothing about MAC distribution overseas! I’m sure you can find out on their website. In the US though, the scents are only at MAC counters & MAC boutiques, not regular perfume stores.

Could they be any vaguer about the notes? I like ‘not without spice’ blurb about the pepper. Must try though.

    • Robin
      Posted on 9 June 2009

Yeah, they don’t care about the notes.

  13. fountaingirl
    Posted on 9 June 2009

Ok, I am going to try both. It’s a good price point too. Though if you look at dollar per ml, it’s not bargain-basement, we’re at $1.25/ml, which would be $125 for 100 ml….

Makes me wish that some of the expensive houses would do a 20 ml bottle!

    • Robin
      Posted on 9 June 2009

You’re absolutely right, not a great price per ml…but $25 is less of a hurdle than $125!

They always make interesting perfumes. The last collections haven’t thrilled me, so maybe the new perfumes can make up for it.

I have so many MAC eyeshadows I’ll never need another. Esp. since I almost never wear eyeshadow, LOL…

I just scraped a bunch of eyeshadows out into paint pots, and turned in the empties for a free lipstick. :) LOVE Mac. They’re a great brand. Who else gives free lipstick when you recycle old containers? And they do Viva Glam, which is great. So yeah, maybe I’ll buy some pee-scented perfume to support them. (Kidding! Well, maybe. we don’t know, do we? It could very well smell like pee, as others have mentioned. I think I need to stop posting things before I’m totally awake. somebody stop me!)

          Posted on 11 June 2009

I love MAC too…more fun to play with their makeup than anyone else’s…just with I’d stop buying it since I don’t need it! A lipstick & mascara are all I need.

Africanimal ( the name is odd to me!) sounds good, but honey almost always goes, um, pee-ish on me. I think I’d still give it a try though. Will have to pass on the Naked Honey, but I think if you’re a honey fan, they both sound really nice.

    • Robin
      Posted on 9 June 2009

Yeah, that’s a common complaint about honey in fragrance.

  16. CynthiaW
    Posted on 9 June 2009

They both sound interesting enough to try – the Africanimal moreso than the other, but the “aromatic orgy” line cracked me up. I’m almost afraid to think about what, exactly, that would entail.

    Posted on 9 June 2009

I’d had no idea MAC did fragrances. The packaging is interesting, and the name Africanimal is somehow intriguing, but I’m not getting any hints about how that name is supposed to relate to the fragrance notes or concept. Not that names always relate to the juice, but when it’s so evocative, I’d kind of like to hear the story behind it…

    • Robin
      Posted on 10 June 2009

Joe, they usually have 5-6 out at a time, sometimes more or less. They’re often right by the cash register in MAC boutiques…not quite so prominently displayed as the makeup.

If these are done well, I think I’d be really happy. Especially at the size and price.

I haven’t ever smelled distinct honey notes in perfume (beeswax, yes; honey, no) but I think, especially when eating honey, the smell is honey’s best attribute. =P

Lots of honey, as someone pointed out above, can smell like urine — Serge Lutens Miel de Bois (which I happen to love) being a perfect example.

        Posted on 10 June 2009

Miel de Bois is EXACTLY what I thought of when I saw honey listed as a note. That was a total scrubber for me.

I can’t even explain why I like it, but I do.

Oh these do sound interesting and love the caps! And love the size (20ml). I have the black cap one – pretty powerful spicy vanilla but I like it. Honey can be so difficult. I have a L’Occitane honey and lemon candle which is lovely, just, but my parents bought me the honey incense sticks and I had to throw them away they were awful to me – too “urinous” I think is the polite term.

Hi! First time poster but long-time lurker…I smelled these this past weekend while at the Mac counter. I have to say that I enjoyed them both but I can assure everyone that my taste is less sophisicated than most of the guys and gals on here. Naked Honey smelled like pure honeysuckle to me and the other one was sweet yet a peppery and a little darker. I liked both and contemplating going back to get both….decisions decisions

hmmmm I need more opinions on Africanimal
there’s no MAC store here and I’m considering buying unsniffed D:

Does the Naked Honey really smell like honeysuckle?! Now I’m kicking myself for not having read this post earlier. I was just in Nordstrom’s but didn’t bother to wander over to the MAC counter. Instead gave Matin D’Orage a 3rd sniff. Hmm…will have to find my way back to Nordstrom’s or a MAC store to sniff Naked Honey. A true, good honeysuckle is so hard to find.

There’s a lady who is youtube famous for her makeup tutorials, and she was talking about which perfumes she liked and I think she was talking about a MAC one with a dark green cap and I wanted to try it.
But I don’t see it on the website. hmmmmmm
    Has anyone here tried it?

btw, I like to pretend I’m German so I went to MAC’s German site and I did not see these. I checked the rest of Europe too. They were only on the US and Canadian sites D:

Probably Emeraldaire, from 2006. They tend to disappear then reappear, so who knows, Emeraldaire might be back some day.

I smelled both of these yesterday and the Naked Honey smells exactly like honeysuckle. I was disappointed with the Africanimal, not very spicy, just sweet. Even the girl at the MAC counter agreed that description said it is spicy, but she thought it was not spicy at all.

The sale is 25% off everything including scents and free shipping with a $60 purchase *and that’s before the 25% promo code is applied!*…Just thought I’d share.
