Kenzo poppies in Lyon, France

Kenzo poppies in Lyon

Kenzo will “plant” 200,000 red paper poppies at the Place de la République in Lyon tomorrow, May 29, in honor of their poppy-inspired fragrance, Flower by Kenzo. The poppies will remain until the following day. Below, see a similar event in Moscow in 2002:

Hopefully it won’t rain!!! I wonder how sturdy those “paper” poppies are. Looks awesome. Wish I could be there to see it in person. :-)

Pessimistic minds think alike, LOL…that was my first thought too: rain.

yup, especially after the storm we had here yesterday that blew apart my entire patch of poppies…. on the upside: my patio looks lovely covered with thousands of bright red petals….

Poppy-inspired fragrance? None of the poppies I’ve ever grown have had a fragrance…

No, they don’t have a fragrance!

I think the idea was supposed to be to “create” a fragrance that matches the spirit of the scentless poppy …

I’m afraid I would be very naughty. If I saw this I would run into the middle and start skipping and singing “You’re out of the woods, you’re out of the dark.” Or i’d roll around and purr “Poppies. Poppies.” The french police would drag me away and I’d be crying the wizard made me do it.

At first I thought “paper poppies” was a real variety and thought, “how wasteful to plant them then pull them up.” Then I realized they’re actual PAPER poppies. Duh.

R, where can I see a larger version of that Moscow photo?

i think Kenzo Flower smells like carnations covered in powder…. Anyways, I love the picture of Kremlin and poppy field- I bet it was breathtaking color combination in real life

I too thought poppies don’t smell, but today (!) my huge Oriental Poppy opened it’s first blossom and it’s like a giant salmon-coloured crinkled silk tissue, and it smells! Something between a rose and fruit tree blossoms. Not too strong, but it does smell nice.

How cool! Will just note that whatever smell your poppy has, that isn’t what Kenzo was after — in all the press materials for Flower, they acknowledged that poppies don’t generally have a scent.
