Lazy Tuesday poll ~ your favorite perfume for a rainy day

Spring Rain

It is raining here, again. So, what’s your favorite perfume for a rainy day in spring? If you’re having the weather I’m having, this isn’t much more than a scent-of-the-day poll. If it isn’t raining where you are, lucky you!

I’m wearing a newly arrived lotion from Body Time custom-scented with Green Fig (fabulous, and looking forward to layering it with something or another), and testing Chanel’s Cristalle Eau Verte and the 3 new Eau de Sisley scents (look for reviews later in the week).

Bois D’Iris. It’s sad – in a good way. I like the feeling of poignance that rain brings and I don’t feel the need to cheer myself up unless it’s days and days of wet. Then it’s Iris Poudre to lighten up. Vetiver Tonka’s another cool, wet, moody one for spring rain. Iris Silver Mist if I liked it better but it’s too carroty on me. And L’Heure Bleue if it was night, and fall not spring.

Oh, Iris Silver Mist is perfect for a day like today — but know what you mean about carroty.

Yay Iris lovers, nothing like a good texas summer thunderstorm to bring Hermes Hiris out of your cabinet :D

Hmmm, that sort of depends on the type of rainy day…

For cold winter rain: Parfum d’Empire Ambre Russe or Mitsouko or Safari or Chanel Coromandel

For mild/dreary spring rain: Chanel Cristalle or Annick Goutal Le Chevrefeuilile or Histoires Vert Pivoine or Ava Luxe Midnight Violet

For hot/humid summer rain: Any of the Hermes Jardin series or AG Eau d’Hadrien or L’Artisan The Pour Un Ete or Yvresse

Sniffer, you’ve made an excellent point: depends on the kind of rainy day…so far in Michigan the wet has been a cold, windy wet which makes me all shivery and blue. Then I reach for happy comforting things like Lea St. Barth. In the event that we ever have temperatures above 60 degrees….goodness I hope so….then I’d probably reach for something bright, sunny, maybe lemony —PdN Cedrat Intense, or Hermes Eau d’Orange Verte or possibly my latest FB —AG Mandragore .

Hi Daisy! Did you read my late post on Thursday when we were talking about names? No-one has commented (boo hoo). It’s the story of a little cat that found me. For some reason I thought you might be interested.

Hi Eye, aka Loto, I did not see but I will have to go read it as my animal shelter volunteer spirit is always willing….just my soft heart keeps me from the shelters now. Not allowed to bring any more home and the hubby gets upset over all the boohooing I do. I must go read your cat story.

We are having mild dreary spring rain, every day it seems. AG Chevrefeuille would have been perfect, wish I’d have thought of it!

I thought of it, but only have a teeny bit of sample left, so passed it by – need to get a FB of that one soon. In fact, I’m light on options all around, other than tons of samples that are all tossed in a big box and hard to find in the morning rush. So, I went with good old GGG&G to help me focus on the warm temp and ignore the dreary rain this morning. Now the sun keeps peeking out, and it’s in the 70s here, at least.

You are right: it depends on the rain
On a cold rainy day, I go for something amber or gourmand– Zara’s Ambra, or any of the Vanilla serie from CSP.
Mild spring rain, I think of a fresh green scent or something with a ginger zing like Zanzibar.
An all day summer rain call for a light citrus to enliven the day. Eau d’Orange Verte, Happy, Monsieur Balmain, Eau Sauvage Extrème, Eau Dynamisante…

It is dreary and rainy here. It’s been raining Saturday night and I think it will continue until Thursday. UGH! I am wearing Andy Tauer’s Lonestar Memories. I really love it. The smoke, the leather, everything about it makes me happy (and I am a city girl, not a cowgirl…I guess being a cowgirl is some deep dark hidden fantasy I have!).

Apres Le Ondee. I only own a small decant. It has something in it that makes me contemplative and somewhat sad. If I don’t want to feel that way A.G. Le Chevrefeuille.

I’m sure I’m getting carried away, but it feels as if it’s been raining for weeks here. This morning I cheered myself up with Fleurs d’Oranger, but now that it’s fading I think I’m going for a good, tonic dose of Patchouli Noir. I am usually not homeopathic about rainy day perfumes — I love Apres l’ondee, but on an afternoon like this it would make me too melancholy.

Umm..should probably sit this out, but it’s 90 and sunny here today in FL. We NEED rain — haven’t seen it in 20 days. I miss those gloomy Northeast days sometimes.
Fear not; hurricane season is almost here! SOTD, off topic: B#9 West Side, am looking for scents for hot, sticky weather!

    • Posted on 5 May 2009

I’m here in Fort Lauderdale and I wish it would rain. It’s so dry here, nothing is growing, all the grass has burnt up and we’re under water restrictions. Who wants to trade? ;)

I haven’t been a perfumista long enough to experience a rainy season yet, but I seem to remember that Demeter Thunderstorm works very well under ambient clouds and humidity.

    • Robin
      Posted on 5 May 2009

Oh, I would trade for your weather at the moment! But hope you’ll get rain if you need it.

  12. Posted on 5 May 2009

We’ve been having some nice, pleasantly cool rainy days here in Northern CA. Two fragrances that I’ve especially enjoyed on these days are Frederic Malle En Passant and Neil Morris Dark Earth. They are very different from each other, but both are glorious!

BTW, I just don’t get the “sad” thing that so many of you report with Apres l’Ondee and some others. Maybe I just don’t melancholy! :-)

P.S. What a perfect, beautiful graphic!

It’s been raining all day today – dreary and in the 50′s. I tried a new layering combo – Yves Rocher Noix de Coco and Demeter’s Kahala Blue Hawaiian! Yes, folks. I smell like a pina colada! Ha ha. Actually, it smells pretty darned good!

I’m trying to REMEMBER! It’s rained so little here this year — not that it usually rains much anyway. We’ll have plenty of overcast days and morning fog all summer long (starting who knows when), but it basically doesn’t rain a drop from May-October. Sad. I should have moved to Portland years ago.

Rain usually coincides with cold weather here — warm-weather rainy scents would be different — but I’d grab for the cozy or austere scents, many wood- or incense-based: Timbuktu, Bois d’Iris, Dzongkha, Avignon, Chêne, Méchant Loup, Santal Blanc.

Oh, and the perfect one, for some reason: Voleur de Roses. Oh, how I’d love a chilly rainstorm so I could wear that!

    • Robin
      Posted on 5 May 2009

I sort of miss morning fog…used to get lots of that in La Jolla.

      Posted on 5 May 2009

well then I guess you don’t have Mallards that think your ditch is a pond! (not my ditch actually but the ditch 3 houses down has a lot of water ….and ducks!!) Mallards are so adorable as long as they are not utilizing my driveway as the “facilities” . We’ve had so much wet stuff that low areas all have standing water—which means there will be a bumper crop of mosquitoes. I don’t want a drought but I could sure go for a warm sunny day once in a while!

    • Posted on 6 May 2009

Joe, Voleur de Roses is perfect for a cool rainy day! I didn’t think of that one.

    Posted on 5 May 2009

Cold, wet and windy here too – but I can’t complain. We’ve had unseasonally pretty and warm weather for the past week and a half!

Today it had to be Ambre Narguilé: sweet, comforting and slightly glamourous to help counteract the bedraggled kitty-feeling. I must say that perfume-wise, I don’t mind the cold days so much. I’ve built a very decent winter wardrobe now, but I’m sorta stuck for spring/summer. I’ve been wearing nary a thing but Angélique Encens, Hiris and Ava Luxe no. 23 in April, and I can’t help but feeling there must be more for spring…

    • boojum
      Posted on 5 May 2009

I have just the opposite problem. I’ve found scads I like for spring/summer (acquiring is another story though…dratted budget), but not much for fall/winter.

      • AnnS
        Posted on 5 May 2009

I’ve always had more cool weather frags b/c I’ve had so much trouble with “white flowers” and other florals which I always thought would just be “bug spray musks” on me. But since I’ve been spending a lot of time these past few years sniffing many samples and decants, I now have found a small style of white flowers and other florals/citrus for summer that work, so I am pretty happy about it. I can see now that it is easier to fudge with a less than stellar formula or quality in heavier cool weather frags that can be saved by spices and ambers, etc, than it is to fudge in frags that need to be light, lovely, etc, for summer. Some of those magnificant floral accords are so fragile, and I see the real genius in some floral compositions for sure.

        • Zeezee
          Posted on 5 May 2009

Yah, it’s the florals that are giving me problems, same as with you. There’s a few I appreciate, but I still can’t wear them daily (yet, anyway. Never say never, eh?)
I’ll need to get on with sampling. :)

          • AnnS
            Posted on 5 May 2009

Yes – never say never – there are a few florals I’ve found that made me reconsider my positon on lily of the valley, frangipani, and very occasionally (gulp) tuberose. Thankfully I love jasmine and roses, so when all else fails, I just focus on those kind! Good luck with your search!!

        • boojum
          Posted on 5 May 2009

Internet ate my response. I tend more toward tea/citrus/cologne frags for warm weather, and they’re a pretty forgiving bunch as well. I was a signature scent gal for years and years, then quit wearing anything at all after child #2 messed with my nose and/or chemistry…so I’m only now beginning to appreciate some of the more floral-centric scents myself. SO much catching up to do!

          • AnnS
            Posted on 5 May 2009

I hate when that happens….usually my toddler whacks my keyboard and that’s that!

I was lucky that my nose was only a problem while I was pregnant, and so then I just made up for 9 months lost time for frag purchases that first year – who needs clothes that fit well when you smell so good, lol!

I love cool weather frags so much, one of my first frag loves was Coco, so it is always a thing for me each year when the weather changes and voila. Though I’ve noticed by chance that two or three of my normal cool weather frags actually wear very beautifully in the heat of summer, with a less is more approach. You will have a lot of fun sampling away b/c there is just so much to pick from – orientals, woods, dark roses….ah – just the best stuff!

          • boojum
            Posted on 5 May 2009

You know, that is no small part of how I became a frag fiend. I can only do so much about my appearance. If I can’t LOOK fabulous, I can at least SMELL fabulous, right? And for a lot less $$. :)

          • Daisy
            Posted on 5 May 2009

In warm weather I go for the citrus/tea types as well they just feel refreshing! I always had trouble with the white flowers but I think maybe I was just sniffing too many mainstream-all-the-same white florals that had a heavy synthetic vibe on my skin….I’m finding many to like now that I’ve discovered niche lines. And I always wanted rose things….only I’m finding that rose isn’t always wanting me….hello jasmine, be my friend…..

Yes, it is raining here, so:
Scent of the day: Bvlgari Omnia
Scent of the evening: Youth Dew Amber Nude
    Works for me!

I can’t wait to try Youth Dew Amber Nude in the rain!

      • Daisy
        Posted on 5 May 2009

that sentence was rather shocking when I first read it….then I reread and realized it was ‘Youth Dew Amber Nude’ in the rain and not ‘Youth Dew Amber’ nude in the rain

Never underestimate the importance of careful reading…

    • Dixie
      Posted on 5 May 2009

      I adore Omnia.

    • Posted on 6 May 2009

Bvlgari Omnia is defintely one I reach for in cooler rainy weather, as well as Kenzo Amour and Hermes Hiris. For today’s rainy weather I’m wearing L’Artisan L’Eau de l’Artisan. I also reach for CB I Hate Perfume’s Black March for spring rain. I don’t have any summer rain fragrances yet.

Yesterday I cheered myself up in the dreary weather by comparing Ma Dame and Estee Lauder Bali Dream, and I must say they are almost identical. Ma Dame is slightly more fruity.

Today it’s a beautiful sunny day in Milan, but we’ve had lots of rain recently and the past weekend was the first real warm spring weekend. So today nothing rainy (right now I’m wearing Attrape-coeur), but my fragrance for warm springy (and summery even more!) rainy days is hands down Coromandel. To me it’s warm but refreshing (a cellar-like effect, sort of) and on the right day it feels like having on your skin and around you the scent of earth soaked in rain, what I imagine should be the smell of rain in paradise.

What a coincidence: tried Cristalle Eau Verte today. And HATED it! It was like a fizzy drink exploded into madness. On the other wrist: Aliage from EL. Way, way better. Third contender: chanel nr. 19. How can one produce such greatness as nr. 19 and at the same time this caricature of youth that is Cristalle Eau Verte? I don’t get it. There must be something wrong with my skin.

Rainy days can be so different! A cool spring rainy day (like today) Guerlain Chamade. A warm spring rainy day Annick Goutal Songes or Guerlain Apres L’Ondee. A miserable hot summer rainy day SSS Velvet Rose, a fantastic summer rain with a big thunderstorm – Annick Goutal Heure Exquise. A warm fall rainy day, nothing but Guerlain Vol de Nuit, and a cool fall rainy day, either SSS Tabac Aurea (or will be for sure!) or Donna Karan Signature. A miserable winter rainy day is Bal a Versailles.

Dang woman, you are wearing a lot of stuff, lol! And, where did you get that new Cristalle? I am still waiting for the bottle I ordered from the Bay department store in Victoria, Canada. I don’t think it will ever get here…

I was not impressed with the new Sisleys. One of them smelled like Mona di Orio Luxe. I think it was no. 3.

No rainy day faves for me…Really!

    Hugs!

What a coincidence: it has been a cold spring this year and it has been raining today here…but: flowers are in bloom: irises, lily of the valey, laburnum, peonies and all kinds of spring flowers. The rain comes and goes with the heavy clouds and the wind brings now and then the subtle fragrance. I cannot add more to this delight than a bit of warmth from a rose. Occitane Rose Nuit de Mai

Alas it is only a sample and I’m half finished. But I think my taste in perfumes do run to rainy, introspective scents so I do have a lot of options. Lots of Giacobetti scents seem suitable. Love FM Lys Mediterannee and Apres l’Ondee too!

In Berlin it’s been cooler and rainy for two days, after over 1 month of major spring weather, with sun and blue skies and sometimes a bit of wind. I wore F. Malle Lys Mediterranée today, and a royal blue dress, to think of spring some more. My sister and I scored some half lilting twigs of honeysuckle in the park and evaded the drug pushers scampering in the bushes to retrieve their stashes. Smells good in the kitchen now, mixing with the little lily of the valley. And now I’m going to go to bed and watch Ran.

I like it a lot, though I fell asleep half-way in yesterday. It’s also in my top ten of Shakespeare films, along with the Orson Wells Othello, and Prospero’s Books by Peter Greenaway. And the wonderfully kitschy Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet. Perfect for rainy days!

Hmm, when I think of rain I think of spring, since here in the Chicago area cold weather usually equals snow and ice. But I also like something that goes along with the sort of wet, earthiness of a rainy spring day … I’m thinking Angeliques Sous La Pluie (which I see is mentioned above), Passage d’Enfer, Voleur de Roses (reminds me of wet earth). Actually the last time it really rained I wore Caron Eau de Reglisse and it was kind of a nice counterpoint to the rain. Vetiver Tonka works too (because I’m in love with it lately!).

    • Robin
      Posted on 5 May 2009

Vetiver Tonka would be perfect right now. And looks like Angeliques is getting quite a few mentions…

Before I used up my sample, Iris Silver Mist. Man, I keep meaning to get a decant of it. It just matches the wet weather perfectly.

On a (cold) rainy day I’d wear 8 88 from CdG.
On a hot one, I’d go for Calyx (which I do not own, but this is a free poll, no)

    :-)

    • Robin
      Posted on 5 May 2009

LOL — yes, completely free, so why not?

  33. Posted on 5 May 2009

My default rain scent has been Le Labo’s Iris 39. I love that iris-patchouli combination. Patchouli reminds me of wet earth, so anything containing it comes out on rainy days.

I tried Dzongkha once because it has a wet stone smell to me, but it’s also very “cold.” It more suits January rain than May rain.

    • Robin
      Posted on 5 May 2009

Yes, you’re probably right about Dzongkha. It’s another one I keep forgetting to pull out of the cabinet lately.

Chanel 19 is usually my mild rainy day choice, but I’m having a bit of a fling with lavender atm, so Bel Respiro, or Gris Clair. I have totally fallen for GC which has helped me see why people swoon over Serge Lutens. I love the way it starts cool and ends warm; lasts forever, smelling different each step of the way.

    • Suzanne941
      Posted on 5 May 2009

Oh I love GC! That bit of menthol chill is just the thing here as it’s starting to heat up! (Really neat how there are readers all over the world. And Bordeaux! sigh….)

    • Robin

I cannot warm up to Gris Clair, but will keep trying :-)

        Posted on 6 May 2009

Me neither. God knows I tried to like it because I love lavender, so got it slathered on my wrist at the Palais Royal shop. Then I felt sorry for my wrist the rest of the day. GC is ice cold, disinfectant. I’ll stick with Brin de Reglisse.

I LOVE Ran! SO beautiful. I can’t think of King Lear the same, and the score is superb…and the costumes, acting, set direction, location….

My favourite rainy day fragrance is Just Breath by CB I Hate Perfume. I also like Odalisque by PdN or if it’s storming at night Ormonde Woman by Ormonde Jayne

Winter rain: Parfumerie Generale No. 6 (makes me feel toasty)

Summer rain: used to be that Gap grass thingie — nothing specific at the moment

    Potential kitty name: Ambergris

    • Posted on 5 May 2009

A new kitty? A girl? Ambergris is adorable! What color is she? I think it would be fun to have a male yellow tabby and name him Bergamot.

        Posted on 6 May 2009

I love giving pets evocative names… we had a friend who a black-and-white cat named Smudge, and a gray-amber tabby named, of all things, Mildew. My sister’s orange kitty is named Fergus.

My own pets all have “human” names.

Is she perhaps orange and gray? Lovely name!
I had a koi named Pie because he was the color of lemon meringue pie….the blue heron that ate him thought it was a great name! (dang herons!)

Looking forward to your Cristalle Verte review!

As for rainy days – I find almost everything to smell better in cold rainy weather. If to choose one – N19. Not comforting enough for cold winter and quite strong for hot summer, it is a perfect rainy weather scent.

    • Robin
      Posted on 5 May 2009

It’s true, things smell better in the rain, don’t know why.

      • AnnS
        Posted on 6 May 2009

It is true – must be the humidity keeps the molecules around better. I know that last year when I was testing out Goutals, I was pretty meh about Heure Exquise, until one day I was just happening to test it on a nasty humid day right before an awesome cooling thunderstorm. The intense humidity and rain just made HE completely bloom up from my skin and accentuated the lovely iris note. I was totally stunned. After that HE became one of my HG!!

  38. Posted on 5 May 2009

On the last desperately rainy day, I wore Hermes Rocabar and it was the most perfect thing–all wet Northwest trees (cypress, juniper, cedar cedar cedar) and spices until the surprising drydown of vanilla, like a cozy blanket. It’s stunningly good stuff (and I can’t think of any reason why a woman wouldn’t smell good in it, too).

    • Robin

Rocabar — great idea! I need to try that again.

Today I went out to lunch with a scad of ladies so was careful about perfume – it was raining, though! I went with Covet, since it was cool and rainy but also a bit tropical.

My kitty smelled especially good in his own brand of kitty-in-wet-grass perfume. Even though he did climb into bed with me this morning completely soaked.

I’m jealous of all this scattered rainfall! It was a gross, hot day here in LA, but I randomly enough I did finally try AG Matin d’Orage at Nordstrom’s, of all things. A bit too Apres la Mousson-y… ;)

    • Robin
      Posted on 6 May 2009

Even I cannot be jealous of your gross, hot day in LA…but would take one in San Diego if I was on the beach! Sorry you did not like the AG.

Its Raining buckets here too! My plants are looking beautiful though so I cant complain too much. Le Labo Rose~It makes me feel happy even with dark clouds looming in the distance. It really is a gorgeous scent and had I not read a review here I would have never tried it. Rose not being my first choice and all…this Rose is absolutely delightful. Every single time I wear it our little one snuggles into my neck and tells me how “pretty” I smell. How could that not make me happy?

    • Robin

Oh, how nice! Did you see the Le Labo Rose laundry detergent?? Too expensive for me but such a neat idea.

I’m much more in need of scents for hot and dry. It’s going to be verging on 100F all week here (and I don’t imagine it will relent until October. ugh). Open to suggestions

We don’t really get much in the way of rain. I’d hate to think I need to find a scent for the 6 days a year. lol

Eau de Guerlain or O de Lancome. One of the new Diptyque colognes? Or read through all the Top 10 of Summer posts maybe…

      • enidan
        Posted on 6 May 2009

O de Lancome is a rainy day one to me! At least the version that came out in a lovely whitish glass flacon a few years ago — I don’t know about the green bottles I see in dept. stores nowadays.
I think I’m influenced by the commercial for this fragrance is very aquatic: it features the lovely Marie Gillain jumping off a cliff with a man, right into the sea below. I was totally seduced by this as a teenager.

The sun is shining these days, but we had quite a few rainy sundays lately. I think I found the perfect scent to compliment that warm, relaxed, rainy holiday feeling: Intense Tiaré by Montale. I love it, surprisingly enough because I usually recoil from vanilla (and even worse: coconut milk!) concoctions, and undoubtedly IT is quite heavy on both notes. But the magic operates and I think it is the most beautiful tropical scent out there: the coconut recedes in the background quite quickly, and the vanilla hides darker undercurrents and melts into the wonderful creaminess of the white flowers. I’m happy to have found a HG…and even more because it was totally unexpected! :)

      Posted on 6 May 2009

I’ll have to check my notes to see if I’ve tried that one, sounds great!

Reasonably warm, dry autumn day here-have not had rain for a few weeks. I wore Karl Largerfeld-i think its his original perfume-nice creamy, spicy, warm, smell.

    • Robin
      Posted on 6 May 2009

Lucky you! And I never got to try any of the original KL scents.

      • debbie
        Posted on 7 May 2009

I have half a 50ml bottle of the original left, which i wear sparingly! Its a dark pink-burgundy liquid and the smell is delicious. Do you know why it is not being made anymore? What a shame!

Karl Lagerfeld’s fragrance license recently went to Coty, and I’m not sure who used to hold the license, but perhaps they had already stopped making the line?

  45. Posted on 6 May 2009

    Narciso Rodriguez – for Him

For these kind of weather.. there’s no better. Cold, rainy, poor gray clouds.. Amazing.. though, should still watch out not to over apply.

  46. flittersniffer
    Posted on 6 May 2009

I agree with a number of the previous picks:

Angeliques Sous La Pluie for autumnal rainy days, with that nip in the air and a whiff of bonfire smoke. Maybe some fog.

Spring rain evokes Apres L’Ondee (if it is cold) and if it is one of those sunny / warm / wet spring days I would reach for my new discovery of the dewy, sappy fresh Delrae Debut – at last, a Delrae scent I like! Possibly also Matin d’Orage, though that would be more for hot, wet, summer mornings! And it does go a bit sour on me towards th end, sadly.

    • Robin
      Posted on 6 May 2009

Oh, I love Debut! A great spring scent, sun or rain.

  47. RusticDove
    Posted on 6 May 2009

I hate to complain about rain, I really do. It seems that we end up with drought conditions every year and I should be grateful for the rain – but too much of a good thing… you know. Anyway, yesterday was not only another gloomy weather day to contend with, but I was also spending the day with a terminally ill friend. I knew I would need something uplifting to wear, and I didn’t want it to be too strong. The perfect choice for me was L’Artisan Premier Figuier Extreme. And though our forecast is much improved for today, I plan to wear it again, as it is a relatively new discovery for me and it makes me feel good.

    • Robin
      Posted on 6 May 2009

Oh dear, hope it helped you through a tough day.

  48. ScentRed
    Posted on 6 May 2009

At the risk of being repetitive, I’d have to say AG Chevrefeuille would be my first choice. A close second would be Iris Nobile. And my third rainy day scent would be AG Un Matin D’Orage.

Today it’s sunny in Southern Ontario and I’m wearing Donna Karan Gold lotion. Usually this is my essential cold weather fragrance – but this morning it called me for some reason. EDT seemed too much, but lotion is just right.

      Posted on 6 May 2009

Your three picks are marvellous, I would wear any one of those if I were feeling the weather and wanted beautiful, feminine, fresh scents around me.

    • Robin

Oh, never tried the lotion — will have to look for it.

      • flittersniffer

I also have the Gold lotion – it is luxurious and wonderful and comes in an elegant gold tube!

      Posted on 6 May 2009

Scentred – I like a lot of the Goutals in rainy weather too – something about her compositions, esp. the “dry” ones like Grand Amour and Heure Exquise, seem to pick up a lot from the damp. I like Songes too for warm drizzly days – the humidity makes the jasmine sing, and Mandragore for hot humid rainy days – makes me feel fresh and cool. Neroli is also very nice as an alternative for a cologne on a damp day.

Really busy yesterday and completely missed this post! It’s chilly spring rain here in SW Va., and I am testing various things. Yesterday: SSS Champagne de Bois, which lasted alllllll day and kept me warm. I wore Kenzo L’Elephant to bed; I’m not sure whether I like it or not, but the weather was cold and we didn’t want to turn on the heat, so it at least kept me toasty. Today: Passage d’Enfer, which may not be right for the weather, but I don’t know until I try, do I?

I do love Apres l’Ondee for warm rainy weather, and I think I could wear 31 Rue Cambon then, too. The other chilly spring rain scent I’ve been enjoying is TerraNova Pikake, a single-note oil that keeps tropical warmth on my brain.

    • Robin
      Posted on 6 May 2009

The lasting power for SSS is usually fantastic. And have to admit it — I turned on the heat last night!

      • mals86
        Posted on 6 May 2009

The verdict on Passage d’Enfer: way too masculine for me. Smelled like shaving cream. Bleah. I finally had to wash it off, which surprised me. I like lily and I love incense, and pine is nice, too – so why does it smell like Generic Recently Shaved Guy on me?

The upside of the whole deal is that I tried Citizen Queen on the other side of my wrists, and am in luuuv. Wow. What a wonderful, elegant Bad Girl scent. I wouldn’t have picked this one to try, either, except that Daisy sent me a sample. (Thanks, Dais!) Wow.

        Posted on 6 May 2009

It can be a bit temperate during the day here in spring, but at night up here in the NE US when it gets really chilly, I’ve been dipping into my new SSS Tabac Aurea to warm me up before bed! It is fantastic! And I totally agree with the use of Champagne de Bois – excellent choice!

I wore Tom Ford’s Black Orchid, I love the truffle, incense, vetiver & patchouli notes. It has been dark & raining for several days now. I finished the day with Angel.

I wish they’d do another Black Orchid flanker — something even darker, with more of the truffle note.

Rainy days are definitely iris days to me…my sorrowful supply of Iris Silver Mist has gotten a workout this week (it has absolutely poured). Today I wore Tubéreuse Criminelle and I thought it worked quite well. I also used up the rest of my little sample of Diamond Water the other day, maybe it’s actually a tuberose thing…

Dying to finally get my hands on some Apres L’Ondee and En Passant after this thread, I have been meaning to for ages!

    • Robin
      Posted on 6 May 2009

Both are very much worth trying! Nothing beats Iris Silver Mist though.

Oh my gosh…it just keeps pouring here in Hampton Roads VA! While I don’t like it for perfume, I’m wearing my Lilly Pulitzer Squeeze sample. It has a bit of fresh squeezed orange juice smell to me, so I figured what better way to counter the gloom?
And hello to all the other kitty/perfume lovers! My Cream Persian and flame-point Himalayan aren’t too happy with the weather either!

  54. Posted on 10 May 2009

Call me a classicist, but for cold rainy days I like Jicky. For spring rains I love L’Ombre dans l’Eau and for those hot, steamy summer showers I either embrace it with Bigarade Concentree or fight it off with Lonestar Memories.

    • Robin
      Posted on 10 May 2009

      You’re a classicist! Nice picks.
