Estee Lauder Private Collection Jasmine White Moss ~ new perfume

Estee Lauder Private Collection Jasmine White Moss

Estée Lauder will launch Private Collection Jasmine White Moss in July. The third perfume in the modern Private Collection series (it follows Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia and Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang) is based on an unfinished fragrance that Estée Lauder herself had been working on in the 1980s.

Private Collection Jasmine White Moss is a green floral chypre; the notes include mandarin, black current bud absolute, galbanum, bergamot, jasmin sambac absolute, jasmin India absolute, violet, orange blossom, orris, ylang-ylang, patchouli, vetiver and white moss mist.

Estee Lauder Private Collection Jasmine White Moss will be available in 30 ml Parfum, 30 and 75 ml Eau de Parfum, and a limited edition solid perfume pendant. (via Women’s Wear Daily)

I’m looking forward to this one! I love the Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia.

Wish they would bring back Celadon.

Oh-oh! My dresser is starting to look more and more like the Estee Lauder counter! I have all 3 of the Estee Lauder PC so far and I have a feeling there may be another calling my name.. ;)

A little off topic but I have been doing a scent comparison this week among EL PC TG, Fracas & FM Carnal Flower. It’s been my little pet project to try and train my nose to recognize certain scents and to see which one I like best as I have seen many reviews calling CF and EL PC TG copy cats of Fracas.

Although I am partial to the staying power of the EL, and I can’t stop smelling my wrist with Fracas, CF is in the lead right now by a very narrow margin. I find CF both very elegant and very sexy in a subtle manner while Fracas seems a little more obviously sexy. Also I think the EL smells entirely different than either CF or Fracas. On me anyways, all through the dry down all I get is gardenia~jasmine. I am not complaining about this because I still love it but on Fracas and CF I get the tuberose for a lot longer time. In the drydown CF turns into a powdery and buttery softness that I just adore and Fracas dries down to a whisper of a wonderful floral mix and then poof! it’s gone.

Just my 2 cents. Happy Friday to everyone!

You may want to sample Parfumerie Generale Tubereuse Couture, just for the heck of it, as well.

A green floral chypre! My heart beats with joy. :-)

      Posted on 1 May 2009

Me four. :) As it happens, I’m wearing my number one green chypre, Caline, today, and was pondering whether we would ever again see any new additions to this category. So yay for ELPCJWM (if not for my growing vocabulary of Private Collection initialisms)!

        Posted on 1 May 2009

Will be interesting to see how the “white moss mist” stands up to a real chypre though! I’m skeptical.

          Posted on 1 May 2009

After I posted and reread the notes, I had much the same thought: There’s no mention of oakmoss, and “white moss mist” may or may not be an acceptable substitute. It sure doesn’t sound like it’ll have as much oomph.

            Posted on 1 May 2009

It’s ok with me … I love jasmine, and a beautiful green jasmine will make me happy even if it isn’t what I’d call a chypre (and few modern scents are).

            Posted on 1 May 2009

It might not be as *chypre-y*, but this sounds like it may be lovely all the same.

As well jasmine when both are limited.. Though I am going to give a try! :-) Sounds lovely.

  5. Posted on 1 May 2009

Sounds very purty! I’m always up to try a new green floral. It sounds a little like Sabi. I wonder if it will be like it at all?

    • Robin
      Posted on 1 May 2009

Ack, can hardly remember Sabi, will have to pull out my sample.

Doesn’t sound like my thing (jasmine? chypre? not for me), but it does sound very pretty. And kudos to EL for not pandering to the Bubblegum Fad.

Wonder how it compares to the original PC? I have a mini parfum, which smells WONDERFUL in the bottle, all refreshing green and floral, and AWFUL on my skin – as though I had bathed in Essence of Lawn Clippings and Dandelion Stems. (Anybody want my mini? PM me at MUA or fragrantica; same username as here.)

Actually, I have very poor luck with all the ELs. The only ones I can wear without their turning odd on my skin are Beautiful Sheer and Pure White Linen Light Breeze, and both of those are fairly boring, wallpaper, inoffensive officey scents.

    • Robin
      Posted on 1 May 2009

Seriously doubt it will be much like the original PC, but who knows?

    • Juniper
      Posted on 1 May 2009

“as though I had bathed in Essence of Lawn Clippings and Dandelion Stems”
That soo made me laugh. I had bought Donna Karan’s Gold (in the fancy bottle) off of ebay and excitedly awaited it’s arrival (I like white florals). When I got it–I gagged. I’m from very RURAL Missouri and Gold smells like lawn, fields, and hay barns…like home. I rushed over to my friend’s to see if I was crazy…she laughed at me. It smelled wonderful on her…but for me, smelling it from the bottle or on me it smells like summertime in rural MO.

Mmmmm… I love Tuberose Gardenia, so I can’t wait to smell this new one. It sounds like I need to try Fracas and Carnal Flower, too though – although my favorite part of TG is the gardenia, so it sounds like I might already have my favorite scent of the three. Although a girl can never have too many scents. :-)

    • Robin

Yes, absolutely try Fracas & Carnal Flower! Great scents.

This sounds like something I would really like. I’m glad it won’t be available until July as I’ve already spent enough this year!

    • Robin

Really glad they’re doing it in 30 ml again…I don’t need to buy anything else this year either.

Must see bottle with stones…why, oh why do the bottles have to be so wonderful? Guess those little solid perfume compacts might be worth the money after all.

Never mind…that is the bottle with stones. Bah. Maybe it’s better in person.

        Posted on 1 May 2009

Looks like Lapis Lazuli with onyx and mother of pearl. If I was rich I would have all of these in the extrait. I’m still working on a sample of AYY but have a FB of TG. This one sounds amazing – love jasmine!!

  12. Aimee LOndee
    Posted on 1 May 2009

Ooooh, high hopes here too. But since vintage Miss Dior is my holy grail, “white moss mist” sounds veeeerrrry suspiciously like marketing copy for “not really moss.”

    • Robin
      Posted on 1 May 2009

      Definitely not real moss.

      • memechose
        Posted on 1 May 2009

remember they o so subtley said the formula of the 198s has been canged to regulations… it has to be the oakmoss

  13. Joe
    Posted on 1 May 2009

This definitely sounds worthy of antici[pation. I’ve been on a bit of a jasmine kick.

I’m surprised how much I enjoyed the Amber Ylang Ylang and I agree with Angela that it’s very much a cozy sweater scent.

OMG! Now I know why I’ve been waiting for something interesting to come along -a green floral chypre – my heart is swooning!!! I can’t wait to hear when it’s distributed!!

    Posted on 1 May 2009

Oh my. I think the original Private Collection is one of the seven wonders of the modern world, and this made me sit up straight in my chair. The idea that EL was involved with the prototype herself (could that be true?) back in the day is pretty exciting. I agree that it is probably not going to be a true chypre, but galbanum, patchouli, vetiver… mmmmm.

    • Robin
      Posted on 1 May 2009

Don’t see why it couldn’t be true. What I’d love to know is the perfumer for the original though! And for that matter, the perfumers for the other PCs.

Not much a lover of chypres, I really look forward to this!

    • Robin
      Posted on 1 May 2009

Most new chypres aren’t very chypre-ish anyway.

      • SmokeyToes
        Posted on 1 May 2009

llol! That’s so true. Now even more so given oakmoss is restricted.

would you consider Roja Dove Unspoken a recent chypre or ADP profumo? I do, and I love both

            Posted on 1 May 2009

I love Profumo so much! I have a bottle + a backup bottle of the old stuff… but the new version is not much different, still very good. Now that’s chypre.

Now this excites me!! I’m such a fan of this series, and EL in general.

    • Robin

I found a nice article about this on WWD on line – interesting about the development, etc. Though I still can’t tell from it when it will be released exactly. It would be nice if it were out for Mother’s Day so I could bypass all my other lukewarm frag gift choices and go for something really interesting!

    Posted on 1 May 2009

Very pleased there are other jasmine lovers out there! Cant wait to smell it! May have to wait till I can get to the big north island though-we have Estee Lauder here but have never had the PC variations-only the original-which I love!

    • Robin
      Posted on 2 May 2009

They keep those to far fewer counters than the regular EL line. They do sell them online though…not that it helps w/ smelling it.

  22. Juniper
    Posted on 1 May 2009

I collect rocks (mineral specimens, carvings and gemstones) as well as perfume/bottles…I am so in love with those solid perfume compacts for this line. If I was rich I would take either of the gem encrusted bottles or the compacts…
Have a 4ml bottle each of the Tuberose Gardenia and Amber Ylang Ylang…looking forward to this one, but agree with questioning the synthetics…

    • Robin
      Posted on 2 May 2009

I did not know they made minis!

      • Juniper
        Posted on 3 May 2009

    Posted on 2 May 2009

I think the EL perfume line is one of the best in the world. Alliage is my favorite but they have so many interesting ones to try. However, how weird am I that I wish they would go back to French names? Or at least a real name. The “Collection” series leaves me cold, as nice as the fragrances may be, because I don’t want the notes spelled out for me like that, it takes the mystery away. I guess it’s just another one of the interesting dimensions of perfume, the “art” of the name.

Does anyone else feel this way or am I smoking crack?

    • Robin
      Posted on 2 May 2009

I don’t know, maybe lots of people agree with you. I don’t think I care about names all that much.

  25. alltheprettythings
    Posted on 2 May 2009

Ooh… this is a MUST BUY -who cares about trying?! And think of the GWP’s we can score with this!
