Fragrance gifts for Mother’s Day 2009, part 1

Mother’s Day is May 10, and it’s coming up fast…here are a few gift suggestions to get you started.

Ormonde Jayne engraved bottleTom Ford White Patchouli travel set

From Ormonde Jayne, an engraved bottle (shown above left): “Ormonde Jayne will engrave your mother’s initials onto the gold and glass stopper of our iconic Pure Parfum bottle and have it delivered in a beautiful shagreen box.” The service takes about 5 working days (not including shipping), and a 50 ml bottle is £130; you can order online at the Ormonde Jayne website.

From Tom Ford for the Mom-on-the-go, a travel atomizer set in Tom Ford White Patchouli (above right): “This elegant, fluted gold case with white cabochon detail is the ultimate in luxurious purse accessories. Includes two gold-capped fragrance vials to ensure your favorite scent is just a spray away.” $160 at Nordstrom.

Want to give Mom something homemade (and reasonably priced!), but don’t have the time to do-it-yourself? Don’t forget Etsy! Here are 2 citrus-y soaps worth checking out: Orange Marmalade soap, with sweet oranges, warm cinnamon and cloves (shown above left; $5.75), and Orange Zest soap, with mango, tangerine and spiced orange (shown above right; $5.25). Both can be found at the Dancing Zebra shop at Etsy.

Wow, I really AM low maintenance…the soaps are far more appealing to me than the pricey perfume.

I would really like one of those OJ bottles, but yeah — those soaps look lovely!

No kidding! those soaps look fabulous! hmmm bet they’d go nice with my Le Labo…..heheheh
I wish my mom was into perfume! It’d be easier to find her fragrance gifts than something “horse related”…..sigh…

        • Posted on 26 April 2009

Well, there’s always Brandy — the apple-scented perfume for horse lovers and their horses (no kidding)! It’s actually pretty good…

Daisy, Hermès was a saddlery & tack company, if you really want to stretch it and get mom something “horse related.” HA!

Too funny! Hermes….my mom would fly in from her environment-friendly semi-subterranean home in the moutains and clobber me up side the head for that one!
Seriously —my mom is like the original Amazon….so I either need to find something extremely USEFUL in all natural fibers or my other favorite gift plan (I’m serious here people) —I call the local feed store and have them “surprise” her with shipments of sweet grain…. I know, you all are just shaking your heads….I’m doing that too… if I didn’t resemble my dad so much, I’d swear there was a case of baby-switching. Either that or my mom is an alien but she’s hidden her pod verra well

          Daisy -
Pacifica has fabulous body butters – surely even if she’s an earthy-crunchy type, she still hydrates her skin with ORGANIC good-smelling smoothing emolients?! I recommend Pacific Mountain Temple body butter and for a light summery scent Brazilian Mango Grapefruit. They run about $18. They also have edt to match those scents for $22.

Sacre, that is a good idea. As much as I hate to interfere with her “warrior” reputation, (so I’d never tell, shhhh) she does use (unscented) body cremes…in fact I make an organic, all natural shea body butter for her ….but you’ve reminded me that it’s time to whip up another batch and send her some.
You all are so lucky to have moms who actually like girl stuff.
My mom is great—she’s just unusual.

They really do look good, don’t they? I’m going to have to look at that site.

These days I find myself wishing that I could adopt a mom for mother’s day. I really enjoyed finding just the right thing for Mom, even when my budget as a nine-year-old only allowed for Avon!

Nice but OJ is too late—my Mother’s Day goody arrived via Fedex yesterday —- Le Labo Fleur d’Oranger 27—- I even convinced the family that it should be kept in the refrigerator and I’ll leave it alone until Mother’s Day…..yeah right!

I already purchased Tom Ford White Patchouly for my mom cause that was her latest craving. I had to test it myself, then ordered another bottle for me. lol Mom always receives her perfumes missing a spritz, but she’s down with that since I pretty much keep her well stocked! ;-)

My Mom would murder me if she found out I spent $145 on 3 VOTIVE candles!! I mean, really, that is steep!

    Those soaps are really pretty!

They aren’t cheap! Everyone I know who has tried the Cire Trudon candles has loved them though.

I’d be thrilled if my husband bought me anything other than tea…*cough…OJ sampler set…cough*…it’s only $50-something, and I’m spending $100+on his father’s day present…

    • Robin
      Posted on 26 April 2009

LOL…it all depends on your perspective — I’d be thrilled if my husband bought me some tea!

      • Daisy
        Posted on 27 April 2009

do you have enough room in your pantry for MORE tea??

        • Robin
          Posted on 27 April 2009

Probably not! But there’s always the hall closet.

            Posted on 27 April 2009

wonderful! that’s what I like, a house with plenty of tea space…er, I mean : closet space.

You could always do what I did this year….buy something you want, hand it to him and tell him to put it away for “an upcoming gift-giving occasion”. :D

I must say, my husband is really *quite* good at selecting gifts, not only for me, but for other people he’s only just met. It’s just that this time I had something specific in mind.

      • Robin
        Posted on 27 April 2009

I do that from time to time, esp. at Christmas.

The next time I have £1000 to spare, here’s what I’ll buy………one of the limited edition Roja Dove scents in his Harrods Boutique (I do love that place). I think there are 8 in all. The lovely, enthusiastic and knowledgable sales assistant allowed me to sniff all of them. They are wonderful. Such incredibly high quality ingredients. I had no idea which one I would choose!! And once they’ve sold a scent to 50 people, they take it off the market. And for the rest of their lives, only those 50 people can buy that particular scent. Now THAT’S a mother ******* GIFT!!!
