Lostmarc’h L’Eau de L’Hermine ~ new fragrance

Lostmarch L'Eau de L'HermineLostmarc’h has launched L’Eau de L’Hermine:

L’eau de l’Hermine takes its inspiration from the nobility of the French formal garden and the charm of the manor-house garden. Fresh, subtle and original lavender is supported by rare white musk, rounded off by heliotrope, refreshed by grapefruit and bergamot, softened by neroli and awakened by peony.

Lostmarc’h L’Eau de Hermine is available now at Beautyhabit, in 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via beautyhabit)

I can’t even claim 30 minutes of a French class but doesn’t L’Eau de L’Hermine mean Water of a Hermine? I hope not; I would totally think of that the wrong way….

Cute box. That drawing is adorable! I’m not terribly tempted by the smell of a formal French garden, though.

Yep. If it makes you feel better, you can think of it as Ermine’s Cologne.

Well, at least you are awakened by a peony and not by an ermine. There’s that to be grateful for. Wonder how a peony wakes you up? Maybe by ringing its bellflower. It sounds worth trying, if the musk is not to dominant. And at least it’s not another melon fest.

LOL, there is always something to be thankful for, isn’t there?

      And LOVE your gravatar!

      • Posted on 24 March 2009

Thanks for the comment on the avatar. I’m a writer and journal keeper, and a few years ago, I found a letter written by my German grandfather in old German writing on heavy, yellowed paper. The avatar is a fragment from that letter. It seemed just right.

          Oh, how perfect is that!

Funny story..my mother found a small diary, also in German, written by her grandfather or great-grandfather, can’t remember which. Assuming it would be fascinating, she paid somebody to translate it…turned out to be a detailed record of how much he paid for everything he ever bought. HA.

This sounds a bit lavender -heavy for my taste – though lavender almost certainly smells a LOT better than an Ermine. :-D

    Phew, I’m here…looks around….nice place…

I’ll just make a cup of tea for everyone and work out how to get myself a gravatar.

The ermine perfume sounds interesting. Is it on a leash, in that illustration? I saw a couple walking a weasel in a little harness in Barcelona, so seems quite plausible.

    MIlk or lemon?

It does look like it’s on a leash. Didn’t aristocratic ladies use to keep hermines as pets, or is that just my imagination running away with me?

      Mine’s milk, please.

You’re kidding, ermines? Actually, I know absolutely nothing about ermines. Except they get made into coats.

        • Daisy
          Posted on 24 March 2009

They are members of the weasel family and are called Stoats usually when in their brown summer fur (isn’t there a fable called “the Lion and the Stoat” ?–elementary school ; don’t fail me now!) Anyhow, they all have a rather “prominent” (read: stinky) natural musk….although I think nowadays those glands can be removed….very sharp teeth, and are often “tempermental” (read: careful, it’ll bite you) . As a pet?? well, some people will keep ANYTHING as a pet….just give me a nice tabby cat and a labrador retriever for heavens sake! ; )

            Posted on 24 March 2009

Oh, and they poop anywhere and everywhere in a profoundly indiscriminate manner…..but I guess if you were an aristocrat maybe you had a servant just for cleaning up the ermine doodies and tinkles….

Of course they used to keep them. In fact there is a picture by Da Vinci “Lady eith an ermine” (1483)

      Posted on 24 March 2009

I could use another cup of tea, thanks! No milk or lemon.

I think the ermine is wearing a scarf?!?

perhaps it’s a bit chilly in the garden…

My father once told me about some long-ago eccentric dandy who used to walk his LOBSTER, which makes walking an ermine seem downright normal!

Nice redesign: subtle changes while maintaining continuity.

That’s an adorable illustration on the bottle!

I wonder whether anyone here has tried any of these Lostmarch (sorry, Lostmarc’h) scents?

      Posted on 24 March 2009

Absolutely! I have Lann Ael and Din Dan and love them both. Lann Ael is like a bowl of hot cereal with milk and apples, Din Dan could be a cousin to AG’s Hadrien, very tart lemon, only slightly sweet.

    Hi, Robin! Love the changes!
The ermine pattern (white with a stylized figure that’s supposed to represent dark parts of the ermine fur) is part of the coat of arms and flag of Brittany, so I’m betting that’s the reference here–lots of Breton symbolism. Lostmarc’h is a really nice brand; I’ve got their Din Dan, a summery frag which manages to be lemony and crisp with a mellow, peachy drydown. I’d love to smell this one; a lot of lavender scents are pretty masculine, so I wonder if this is a masculine, feminine or unisex.

    • Robin
      Posted on 24 March 2009

Thanks Bergere! I *think* Din Dan is the one everyone at MUA loves, but wouldn’t swear to it.

We have ermines living in our cabin sometimes – under the house, and we often find ermine droppings inside the house when we get there in the summer, so supposedly they get into the house during the winter as well. Very cute animals, but they smell sort of like rats, if you know what an outhouse where there are rats living smells like? I doubt they make good pets, most of the animals in that family seem to be very difficult to tame.

Is your gravatar a misty mountain range? I’m trying to decide if it is dangerous vertical cliff (imminent death below) or is it turned sideways?

I love it that we can have avatars! I’ve never had one before and it took easily 10 minutes to choose from my pics—like a kid in a candy store who can have only one piece! (stresssss!)

Ermines get no luv here, I see. Perhaps my new avatar should be an ermine, just to be contrarian. If civet smells good, then perhaps zee water of zee ermine smells nice, too. (I’m still feeling febrile, so forgive me if I sound giddy.)

    • Robin
      Posted on 24 March 2009

Do, do, do! Someone should have an ermine avatar.

Thank you, me too. I learned that some unknown person already registered a gravatar with my nickname (or I’m using their nickname), so thank goodness for identicons, as I like mine very much. Although I like March’s better. And Angela’s gravatar makes me feel… square.

I really don’t think I have heard of an ermine before.
    They’re cute…

I am not sure what gave me this idea, but for some reason a while ago I was thinking about a hedgehog perfume (??)
I think CB I Hate Perfume could do it. or maybe Lostmarc’h.

    • Robin

Perhaps that’s next in the series ;-)

        Posted on 24 March 2009

I asked my friends if they would want a perfume called Ermine Water and sent them a picture of the bottle…
and apparently ermine water is what all of my friends want in a perfume.

    • Robin

  20. MollyG
    Posted on 25 March 2009

Love the bottle, and the scent sounds beautiful! Lostmarc’h has been sort of an underwhelming brand for me so far, though. (Didn’t think Lann-Ael was All That, Atao is nice but nondescript, and Iroaz is pretty but not something I could take a steady diet of.) So anyone who tries Eau de l’Hermine, please report back! :)

    • Robin
      Posted on 26 March 2009

You’ve tried more of the line than I have…I need to find more sampling time, I’m so behind.
