Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles 2008, part 11

More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

From Viktor & Rolf, this year’s limited edition version of Flowerbomb Extreme (you can see the 2007 bottle here). The description hasn’t changed: “In a bottle like a precious amethyst gemstone and dressed up with a bow, Extreme plunges straight into the heart of deep floral accords. Sambac jasmine, osmanthus, and rich vanilla unleash a sublime, sensual pleasure.” At Nordstrom, $135 for 50 ml.

From MAC, the MAC Monogram duo (above left), with two 15 ml bottles of 2007’s Air of Style fragrance, “beautifully nestled in a metallic faux patent pouch featuring a circular M∙A∙C Monogram logo on an embossed plaque with gold and red degrade detail”. $75 at MAC.

Shiseido’s latest incarnation of Zen (in other words, the 2007 version), with the bottle finished off in gold for the holidays (above right). In 50 ml Eau de Parfum; 60€. (via cosmoty.de)

Agent Provocateur’s Strip fragrance (above left), in a new limited edition bottle for 2008. 55 ml; 66€. (via beaute-addict)

Caron’s Montaigne in the Monument bottle (above right), “elegant and pure-of-line, draped with its fine golden chain”. Price unknown, but it probably isn’t cheap, right? (via parfums-caron.fr)

The Flowerbomb and Strip are cute

I still really want the Silver Words CdG 2 bottle though

I don't really need to add any more hand grenades to my collection but that Zen bottle is nice. When I see the price in Euros, though, I despair that it will be available in the US.
That Caron is kinda goofy. From the “Perfumes in Bondage” line, I take it.

I like the Shisedo Zen limited bottle design and I like Mac's “Air of Style,” duo set.

The 2007 edition of Flowerbomb looked much nicer imho. This year's looks and feels cheap – it feels a little grainy, as if the glitter was glued on by hand.
And they really should change the description – there's no bow on this year's bottle.

I like the Silver Words too…

I love the LE Zen and Caron! But Santa is already too busy with my other requests this year…

The Flowerbomb and AP bottles are very similar. I know the team who put AP together and they swear they thought of the grenade idea first. I am always disappointed with the cheap materials used for these. My favs to date are the Acqua Di Parma Muriano glass or Lalique of course.

I agree, it does feel a bit cheap. Looks nice, but feels coarse and grainy, like couscous suspended in plasticky resin.

I barely got anything for my birthday (which is in November), should I just make my family splurge and buy me a bottle?

    I've never tried 2 though.

Luckyscent has had the pearly monster White edition thing forever, but that one was kind of lame

I didn't like Pearly Monster so well as Silver Words either. But I'd smell it first!

I know some Nordstrom stores have S. Zen, but mine doesn't so I haven't even smelled it yet.

The Caron is a little odd.

I can't even remember if I ever smelled “Air of Style”…

I liked the first Flowerbomb the best, the one w/o the bow on it. I think (?)

Haven't seen this year's in person, but don't care for it in the picture.

LOL — good to keep Santa busy though ;-)

I'm sure AP did, it's been on the market much longer.

Are antique bottles worth anything? I have some old Avon bottles and quite a few 30 yr. old Yves Rocher perfumes (that still haven't turned!). Yves Rocher may be dirt cheap but their fragrances and beauty products are wonderful and do their job. They truly are a inexpensive get purty store.

and to pick a few ears, since “The Monday Mail” has gone on hiatus and is full-could I get a shout out for a non jasmine, multi-flower scent that has a musky/ambery dry-down where you can still smell a bit of flower with the bottom? I don't care for foodie, gourmet scents. You are my hope, since I am still a newbie tired of the the ubiquitous, kinda pretty mainstream scents.

That's true, obvious really. I think when AP launched they did not make the grenade reference explicit.

How many grenade bottles have you got?

Many antique bottles are worth something, but it isn't something I follow so I couldn't tell you what. There's an International Perfume Bottle Association (http://www.perfumebottles.org/) where you could probably learn more.

There will be one more MM before it goes on hiatus, but we'll keep you in mind when it starts back up in January! I can't think of what to recommend offhand, that description isn't specific enough, sorry.

Thanks Robin, your so sweet. I'll try to narrow down what I want. Until then experiment, experiment, experiment.

I've always seen the AP bottle as an egg (Agent Provocateur, right?)

I like both bottles, but neither of the perfumes :( Haven't tried Strip, though.

I like the original AP but don't love it. Strip I've only tried on paper though…
