Holiday fragrance gifts 2008 part 3

From Czech & Speake, their popular No. 88 unisex fragrance (“No.88 has a fresh, woody top note of reviving and uplifting bergamot, the richness and warmth of geranium, rose otto, cassie and exotic frangipani. Combined with dry base notes of vetiver and sandalwood, this modern classic has a full-bodied, sophisticated sensuality.”) in a Deluxe Gift Set with 200 ml Cologne Shaker, 200 ml bottle of Bath Oil and two soaps. £165 at Czech & Speake.

A budget gift from Yves Rocher: the “5-Piece Fragrance Lover’s Collection” with miniature bottles of Comme une Evidence, Iris Noir, Voile d’Ambre, Rose Absolute and Néonatura Breath, all packaged in an organza bag. $20 at Yves Rocher.

Also reasonably priced, a trio of solid perfumes from Crazylibellule & The Poppies. The set shown has Vanilla Fruit Sorbet, Vanilla Macarons, and Vanilla Sucre Glace, but there are 5 different sets so you can find the scents you (or your recipient) would like. $48 at Beautyhabit.

The hostess gift: from Fragonard, a candle scented with cinnamon & orange. 200 gr for $35 at Four Seasons.

And the stocking stuffers: at left, Swedish Elf Soaps for children. “Sure to delight children and adults alike, the Swedish Elf Soaps are just the right size for little hands. Scented with spice and stamped with an elf message to Be Good or Be Nice, they’re presented in vintage art ornament boxes to hang on the tree or anywhere.” $4.50 each at eBubbles. At right, Col. Ichabod Conk Shaving soap, with aloe vera and avocado. Available in Almond (shown), lime, amber or bay rum, $3.50 for small or $5.50 for large at Lee’s Safety Razors.

R, did you get that Luckyscent holiday gift email yesterday? It was off-the-chart drool inducing!

“No.88 has a fresh, woody top note of reviving and uplifting bergamot,…” When did bergamot become “woody”? Or are the marketing people just throwing words together?
I just checked the “bergamot” Wikipedia entry and found this: “Witchcraft: Bergamot was said to be used by Italian calabrian wiccas that used the fruit in potions to make women fertile, men impotent, or to get rid of warts or blemishes. Today there is a well-known pagan cult that worship the god given name of the Bergamot. On their talismans is a bergamot orange. n hoodoo rootwork, bergamot is used to control or command, and for this reason is used in a variety of spells and formulas in which a practitioner might wish to subdue another person.”
Gosh! Oh well, back to work.

All those minis from Yves Rocher are cute!

I got the Luckyscent email too. I dared not look! Too tempting.

But, alas, I violated my no-buy restriction for 08 (with only a month to go, no less), with a bottle of L'Artisan's Voleur de Roses. A rule-breaking worthy scent though!!

I don't know what I want or what I want to get anyone else

They should have said “with” instead of “of”, but it's hardly the worst ad copy I've seen this year ;-)

And wow, had no idea bergamot had that kind of history!

    Joe805,

And I should be thanking you. I got the idea to try it from an earlier post of yours (can't remember what one) and I”m so glad I did.

So it's my Happy Holidays/Christmas gift to myself. :~)

Oh, my. I have the plant in the front garden, and it fruits. I feel obligated to plot to induce fertility, impotence and warts. *commences The Plot*

I feel the same way It's all so overwhelming. Do I buy myself something classic as an end-of-year reward, or do I go for something brand new? And gifts are just as hard. I think it might be easier to live in simpler times without so many choices. Of course, if this economic turndown continues, we all may have far fewer choices…

I hate that feeling. I'm just about done with my holiday shopping — luckily, we only do kids in my family so that makes the choices easier (they all know just what they want).

That stylised '8' design is reminiscent of the limited edition Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream packaging about a year ago or so.

I meant to buy some of the 8 hour cream, but have already forgotten what it looked like…
