The laziest Friday poll EVER ~ SOTD

What’s your scent of the day?

I’m wearing Molinard Tendre Friandise. I have a very old decant, and it’s aged beautifully; it’s much deeper and smokier than it was when I first got it.

Chocolate bar of the day (yes, I’ve already started on the chocolate) is Dagoba Lemon Ginger, tea (my fourth cup so far) is Peet’s Yin Hao Jasmine.

Today I'm wearing Prada Amber pour homme. At first, it didn't impressed me, but i like it more and more everytime I use it. It's a quiet sofisticated scent, very elegant, staying close to the skin and sommetimes revealing a little trail, just to make the others wonder what fragrance that you're wearing.

    Hi R,

I chose Marc Jacobs Blush today. Someone over at PoL was asking about the Intense version, which in turn, inspired me to wear Blush today. It's perfect for this hot (90+), dry day here in So. Calif. Where's Fall??? We just got back from Quebec and Vermont and it was Fall there! Both places are so beautiful.

You smell good ! Is that perfume still sold?

And, it's never too early for chocolate!

    Have a nice day.

After our discussion of the Parfum d'Empire scents yesterday, I decided to wear Aziyade. It's smelling wonderful!

I haven't started in on the chocolate yet, but I have a chocolate covered s'more waiting in my purse, and I had Assam tea for breakfast. :-)

Yes, am feeling lazy and trying to rest as am working a 12-hour night. So for today, am trying 2 new samples: DSQUARED She Wood, which is nice but nothing great..smells like some hand lotion. Other wrist, JPG's recently NST reviewed, MaDame. It's not what I expected; it's doing a baby oil thing on me…what note is that??
Am on my second cup of tea, but each cup is around 500 mls, Bewley's Gold Clipper. No chocolate though. There's an excellent chocolaterie in Montreal called Suite 88. They make a gorgeous chili pepper hot chocolate that can be served in dark, milk or intense chocolate versions.

    Joy parfum.
I got a bottle only recently so it's a new one for me. I really like it although the gorgeous rose doesn't last very long on me and gets overpowered by jasmine and ylang ylang pretty quickly. Still nice.

Well blow me – NST has a SOTD poll on a day I have been so run ragged I am not wearing any. Indeed I am still unwashed in my pjamas at 6pm, but I have been ringing French politicians all day long. Happily, videophone technology is still in its infancy.

SOTE may well be my new FB purchase of PG Brulure de Rose, with a squirt of Jasmin Noir for good measure on some other discrete body part.

I'm wearing, primarily Chanel Chance…that's been getting worn a lot lately- I like it in the cold weather, on fabric. Surprisingly spicy on me…But tonight, after I finish lounging around I'll probably put on a bit of my Luctor et Emergo sample, or maybe Passage D'Enfer. I can't explain it, as it wasn't a conscious decision at all, but I love wearing the Chanel on my clothes, just barely spicy/warm drydown, and one of those two on my neck/wrists. Couldn't say why…I should try to layer them deliberately and see what happens. :)

I'm also thinking about busting out some perfume oil I got at a craft meet thing. I have Egyptian musk- which is actually very floral, fresh cut grass that smells pretty accurate if you happen to have a lot of hyacinths (maybe hyacinth?) around, and straight up Amber which just turned into this god-awful powdery mess on my skin. Does amber normal smell powdery? I've never really consciously sniffed amber before and I have no way of knowing whether the oil I bought it actually amber-esque. However, if it's not, I'm not terribly heartbroken. I got those three for twelve dollars. :)

Well, I started with a spritz of Jardin Sur Le Nil when I showered this am & then headed off to the gym an hour later.
Post second shower, I'm trying a sample spray decant of Rose Leger, Its cold & gray today & it seemed like it might be something to bring back a little summer. Pleasant, but a bit too “pink” for me though.

Hey, Robin! Yesterday I've been wearing Nomad Tea and I am not sure if You ever got a chance to try this one. I like all frags from Sweet Series, but this one stands out from the rest. I know You like Herba Fresca (and so do I) so I thought You'd really like Nomad Tea as well. Think Herba Fresca with it's green tea, mint and herbs, but a bit darker, smokier, with a “real”, stronger tea accord that lasts longer. This is my another HG allert big time, it's like Herba Fresca is perfect for the summer, and Nomad Tea is just great for fall.

Great idea, R!!! The lazier you are, the funnier it gets.

I woke up to a spritz of Guerlain AA Figue-Iris as I usually do — it never seems to interfere with whatever I decide to wear as my “real” scent of the work day — and now have Ava Luxe Vamp on my right hand and Montale Aoud Damascus on my left. It is an overcast, cool, damp day here in Vancouver and these scents are just so cozy and warm. interesting and comforting at the same time.

I'm always interested in what other NST folks wear, I'd be happy to have this as a semi-regular poll, along with the Monday Help this Person Choose a Fragrance feature. Thanks, R!

I'm enjoying the same scent, but then, I'm a sucker for violet. I actually mixed it with Prada's Infusion d'Iris – I like the powdery nature of the combo.

I don't do tea. Coffee, with half and half. :)

I find true amber very powdery. But again maybe that's just me (and you). I wear lots of amber for that very reason becuse I love it. I don't have straight aamber oil, but I do wear this solid amber butter that is Indian. hard resin like thing in a carved wood case. It's very dry and supposidly pure amber. Smells powdery and deep. My husband loves it!

Olivier Durbano Black Tourmaline, which is very, very nice and might be FBW (there are too many incense scents that I love!) I am drinking Harney & Sons “Golden Luo”, which is dark, malty with a hint of cocoa in the finish. I will have to see later if there is any chocolate in my future–maybe a flour-less chocolate chip walnut cookie from the French bakery down the street if I am good boy and work-out when I get home, though I should save my pennies for that septet of Mark Buxtons.

Timbuktu: Just last night received my new 100ml bottle to replace the nearly-empty one I'd been worrying over, so I felt like celebrating. We've been having an unusual heatwave, but it kind of works in heat as well as cold — and it's been chilly in the morning's anyway. It's been going from about 50 in the morning to 85 or more in the afternoon here.

Kiehl's musk on the base of my neck (two light sprays)

And Adidas Dynamic Pulse behind my ears, inside of elbows and wrists.

It is a sunny and hot spring day here in Buenos Aires, and I have a commitment for later on the afternoon. I didn´t want to overwhelm at the office with just-kiehls… so I layered with the adidas. Received many compliments :-)

i'm testing Armani Code Pour Femme today. One of the office gals bought some and decided it's too strong for her and asked me ir I'd like it. The opening IS strong — very ginger plus bug spray plus something that smells of plastic. I can see why she didn't venture further with it. But if you give it 10 minutes or so, the plastic/bug spray dissipates. The ginger sticks around, though, and combines with the florals and wood to make a nice little play group.

It isn't revolutionary, but it's so much nicer than the bulk of what's out there in the department stores that I may give this orphan a home. :) The bottle is downright pretty, too, although the cap is chintzy and doesn't fit right.

Interesting…well, my roomate said it smelled like awful baby powder and made me scrub it off right away. :) I was in utter agreement. I do love how it looks though, a little glass bottle with just a white label and this fantastic-looking dark well, amber, looking liquid in it. I guess for four bucks, it's enough to really like the bottle…and to have had the experiene.

Since I am not working it took me a while to clean up today but I decided to bite the bullet and use up my Apres l'Ondee sample. I love that it smells so much like paste at first and then becomes so ethereally wonderful. It is one of the few perfumes that really becomes one with my skin until it seems like this is just how I should naturally smell, even though it is a little weird.
Tea is Tension Tamer mixed with a Vanilla Rooiboos.
I will probably finish my Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate with Mint, or have a small morsel of Alter Eco's Dark Chocolate Velvet (the best ever).

Eau Premiere lacks all the edginess and courage of the original Nr. 5, it is just a dull product like a perfume that a woman has been wearing for over 40 years day, day out… it is a”worn out” fragrance.

And eating and drinking, too! Your chocolate habit is endearing, R., and keeps us feeling a little less guilty about our own small indulgences — not to mention the larger kind (she confesses, dangerously lemming that Japon Noir)!

And isn't it neat, vis-a-vis tea and chocolate, that so many of us love those? They often seem to get swapped as little extras when we swap-happy types are doing our thing. This morning, for instance, I enjoyed a gorgeous, brisk cup of Assam blend from the Canadian Maritimes sent to me by a lovely American swapper, and a couple of nights ago I was nibbling on some amazing dark chocolate sent by a woman in Dublin. What a happy, generous little world of sensory experiences we fragrance lovers share!!!

Your “lazy” polls always bring us closer together, R. Thanks again.

Well, I'm trying an interesting one on this warm Northern CA day. Pulled out my sample of Dorissima GOLDMUND. Didn't much like the aldehydes at the beginning. They are pretty subtle in this fragrance, but I'm just not into that perfumey glimmery thing. However once it settled down, I liked it a lot! Classy and feminine, I think, with a real potential for versatility.

Just-home-from-work treat: This morning's leftover coffee poured over ice, and a couple of those Ferrero Rocher hazelnut chocolate thingies.

Good poll! It was cool, sunny, mid-70's and beautiful in Dallas today. I wore Cabaret with a touch of Silver Factory (a woody/cedary/incensy/rosy affair). Drank PG Tips decaf (pregnant again, yeah!) with organic whole milk, Brit-style. No choco — I'm a licorice fiend! Haribo licorice whips, to be precise.

testing l'air de rien, which was sent to me by the perfume fairy…it's really going through a lot of moods, from flat out gorgeous to withdrawn and forlorn……..very mysterious, as many have said.
the tea and chocolate are as banal as can be, though – plain lipton's and a king size hershey bar (not even with almonds, sheesh!)

I had to go to court. I mixed Micheal Kors with Demeter's Incense and Cinnamon Toast. I was aiming for really spicy white flower( I was mad). I forgot I had on Sage's Amethyst oil from the night before. I think I probably smelled like angry lilacs-very oxymoronic. I won my court case though!

Cool post Robin. What a great idea. It's interesting to see what we are really wearing day to day and why. I vote you should have this post more often.

speaking of bug spray, I just got a bottle of Tova in the frosted bottle and this reminds me strongly of Aeroguard spray! This may sound like a bad thing to some, but is very evoccative to me of hot summer nights. It is still Spring here but already getting really warm. Serves me right for living in a semi desert climate!

Yes. I do like the original one, but there's a big no-no for me since it's my MIL signature scent ;-) .. I think they've made a good job “mellowing” Chanel 5. Still, I don't think I'd spend 92 euro in a 75 ml bottle (price in Barcelona).

Going back to Calandre ¿do you know if they have discontinued this scent?. They did that with Metal a few years back, so I don't know if the same has happen to this.

On Calandre, I really don't know. It is easy enough to find at discount online stores in the US, but that doesn't mean much. You can't easily find Paco Rabanne here otherwise…most department stores don't carry the line.

I liked the combo, Robin. The EF brought out more incense in the PdE. I reapplied and usually I move onto another fragrance. I was in the mood for some incense. In fact I am wearing it again this morning. So on me it works. '~)

Last night I felt very experimetnal and added a bit of Montale's Oud Queen Roses…OMG! Heaven!

Interesting…I went to our local toy store with my daughter and received many double looks from some of the other patrons. We have a high population of East Indians here and I think I reminded them of home. My rose/sandalwood oil gets a similar response.

I think KUSMI is pretty good, though it is for me usually important to have organic quality. The only green tea from KUSMI I have tried now is Jasmin and it is a beautifull blend for a perfumista, the cup is light and yellow and scent is natural and strong and very elegant. KUSMI is just pretty expensive and I was not sure it is worth it, that's why it is new in my tea collection. Fits perfect with Oléne, smells pretty similar to me!

I've just had a “wrist-off” between Eau Premier and regular edt….the edt actually won. If we go way back to the NST review about the Eau Premier and I wasn't sure about buying a bottle, well, I am absolutely sure now that it just doesn't cut it. EP opens so lovely…but then after about 1.5 hours, it gets so meh. The regular No 5 edt way out performs in the long dry down. It manages to keep a nice sophisticated presence. I'm not sure if I'll ever be a No 5 convert (I like Baghari better), but now I can put my Eau Premier ideas to rest.

I don't know how I missed HE all these years, but I found it this year almost by accident. Once I fell, I fell hard. It skyrocketed to a shared spot for my number 1 frag. It is my HG along with Nahema. You must have excellent taste if it's been one of your favorites all these years. I was recently very happy to find the dry body oil and scooped up a bunch. After all these years I am nervous HE might be discontinued just after I've found it!

I think it's the power of positive thinking. I've never had stainless steel work for me in removing smells. Stainless steel sinks or that bar thing doesn't take off fish or a scrubber perfume.

I coat the offending area in Chapstick (that brand seems to work best, but others will do), wait a few minutes, wash it off with Tide or Dawn, then put on a hand cream and massage it in. Smell is gone and you are ready for more.

For the last few weeks, something has happened to my body chemistry. I suddenly can't stand perfumes that I have worn happily for a while. Jardin Apres Le Mousson, which was never melon=y on me, is suddenly a heap of rotting melon. Jardin Sur Le Nil is sharp and unappealing underripe fruit. Last summer it was my heaven.
My most recent purchase, Jo Malone's Sweet Lime and Cedar, which I swear, had not one scintilla of cedar on me for the first four spritzes, is now a cedar forest and is giving me a sap attack.
Suddenly, florals are OK on me. I feel like my body chemistry has been stolen by aliens. But wait, you asked us to describe what we are wearing. Jo Malone's Orange Blossom over the body lotion of Verbena de Provence. It's all I can stand.

I can only wear Aromtics Elixir in the Velvet Sheer formulation, as I find the EDP (or is it pure parfum?) spray way too overpowering. Hard to believe I will say this about a Chypre, but it does get too strong for me to wear (though I love smelling it on others!). The Velvet Sheer is softer and wears closer to the skin and is very true to the original in my opinion. A pure Chypre bliss and perfect for this time of yea…

hey quinncreative, you are not the only one! same with me! I had Angel Innocent, Coco, rather heavy scents, had to swap them. Now I turn to white florals and melon stuff – the opposite things. Mousson would have been a no go for me, now I just cannot wait to grab it, or Jasmin scents I used to ignore or even hate. My chemistry turned different after my 30th birthday, same time with a distressing breakup.

I turn to things I used to wear before my last relation-ship – it is WEIRD but it seems like I am turning to my previous me.

So I wear rose and melon and narcisse and jasmin.

I guess it is more then chemistry, at least for me;-)

It is so interesting how hormones have an effect on what we like, dislike, smell, and taste, not to mention our moods. They affect our skin, its moisture, our circulation as well, which might explain why scents we love might turn on us.

Mybeautyblog, what are your go-to scents at the moment?

  174. Anonymous
    Posted on 27 October 2008

Today I love scents for men like Lalique Encre Noir, unisex scents like the monsun garden, CREED Love in White (so girly, I am ashamed to admit), Oléne by Diptyque, Vicolo Fiori by ETRO, I say FLORALS!

…and Serge Lutens A la Nuit (Jasmin, I used to hate most of the SL), and also male Serge Lutens like Serge or Ambre Sultan and Arabie.

I used to have TF Black Orchid before, Coco, Malabah, Angel Innocent, rather heavy orientals. I still love my Chasse aux Papillons (white floral) and I will stick to Nahéma, which is the kind of dirrty quirky rose that is not too girly nor too heavy.

The funny thing is, my present partner has a much clearer opinion on scents for me than the former one, e.g. Chanel No.5 EP is something for me in thirty years… he also adviced me to buy Nahéma. He likes best when I do not wear any perfume though.

The understanding for another person with its character and likes and dislikes can be validated by the simple choice of a scent for this person. It is interesting how different the choice of different friends, partners or other related people can be.

(One of my girfriends brought me several times Vicolo Fiori, totally convinced it is my scent – she might be right).

I agree with you, that weather changes, particularly drastic swings, could affect us as well. But wouldn't that be mood-dependent as well? For example, when it's dark and gloomy for days on end (like in long Canadian winters), depression rates increase i.e. seasonal depression or “cabin fever”. It's all related, isn't it?

The weather, hormones, the shorter days of sunlight. . .pretty soon, my mood will be beyond salvation by the cozy, fireside scents of fall. Once the heavy rains set in and it gets dark by 3:30 in the afternoon here i Vancouver, the Big Guns are in order: the sunshine-y blast of a good, crisp, exciting, get-your-circulation-going Citrus with Benefits. Mmmmm, Eau de Merveilles!
