Le Labo Poivre 23, Gaiac 10 ~ new fragrances

Le Labo Poivre 23 perfumeLe Labo has launched two more fragrances in their “city exclusive” series:

Poivre 23, London (shown) ~ “Poivre 23 translates into Pepper 23, and it’s Le Labo’s pepper statement, developed in partnership with Annick Menardo and only available as an Extrait de Parfum. Why pepper? (And we’re talking true Bourbon Pepper, the rolls of peppers) Because it’s the spice of all spices, widely used in perfumery, and we wanted pepper to finally get what it deserves: the limelight.” Notes include pepper, cistus labdanum, incense, sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla, gaiac and styrax. [Update: Le Labo has updated their website; the perfumer name for Poivre 23 is now Nathalie Lorson]

Le Labo Poivre 23 is available exclusively at Liberty of London.

Gaiac 10, Tokyo ~ “Gaiac is a very hard greenish wood that isn’t as dry as cedar and that is subtle, profound and stable. Le Labo’s GAIAC 10, a perfume extract that has been developed in partnership with Annick Menardo, is a tense formula built on gaiac wood and surrounded by muscs (4 different types in all), with hints of cedar and olibanum (incense).” With notes of gaiac, cedar, musc, olibanum.

Le Labo Gaiac 10 is exclusive to the Le Labo boutique in Tokyo.

(via lelabofragrances)

More Le Labo city exclusives: Tubereuse 40 (New York), Aldehyde 44 (Dallas), Vanille 44 (Paris).

Update: see reviews of Le Labo Poivre 23 & Gaiac 10.

Am in London on Thursday, so I'll check out Poivre 23. I'd like to say I'm in Tokyo next week, but that kind of jet-setting lifestyle is as likely to be me as growing wings and tail feathers.

Do report back! And hey, if you should happen to be in Tokyo, LOL…

Love the pepper-vanilla combination in L'Artisan's Piment Brulant. I'll have to give the Le Labo a go if I can get my hands on some.

Whoops! I meant Poivre Piquant :-)

If they were available here that would be neat. So people wanted pepper to get in the limelight! I think it's a good idea but I'm not sure how that really works on the skin. Gaiac sounds great.

I'd like to give it a go too!

They both sound pretty darned good to me!

Wow! I…want…no, need…to try both of these!

And, where is our LA fragrance, Le Labo??? But for that, I would be too through with these city exclusive fragrances that probably cost an arm and a leg!

    Hugs!

I've been looking for peppery perfumes, and Annick Menardo made my current favorite (Bulgari Black), so I would really like to try this.
I live no where close to London, though.

Very excited to smell this one. Love pepper. Love Menardo. My lucky number is 23, too.

Hope the price isn't astronimical like Vanille 44 is.

God knows pepper doesn't every get the limelight. I hope it works out better than Hermes' Poivre Samarcande, which I didn't enjoy by itself — I'm still looking for a nice layering partner for my sample. I'm rather interested in smelling the vanilla in P 23.
Gaiac 10 does sound nice. However, I'm a little surprised this is what they launch for Asia. Not Peony X or Grapefruit Y. Not that I'm offended or anything of that nature; it seems like something lighter would sell better. Or maybe I'm just secretly wishing it was launched closer so I could get a good sniff.

The Gaiac particularly attracts me and of course I live in London so get Poivre but really I'm not complaining! Libs is having a late shopping evening for its loyalty card holders next week which I'm planning to go to as they are also about to stock the Malles and I'm very interested in Dans tes Bras. So I'll try the Poivre then. I do generally like what Annick Menardo produces. She is very talented isn't she. Trying to figure out if there is a particular connection between London and pepper.

I don't know — for some reason, I thought LA was coming first, R.

It it's an extrait, it isn't likely to be cheap.

Quite so — it doesn't sound like your typical Asian release. But then, doubt they're after a typical customer, even in Tokyo, right?

Hey, be glad you've access to even one of them! And yes, no complaints about Annick Menardo :-)

So far, I've seen no connection between the scents & the locales, but maybe I'm missing something.

Just a thought – Libs has recently launched what they call an online shop so might be worthwhile having a dig around.

Dans tes Bras won't be in Liberty til the weekend, unfortunately (that's when the Malle section launches). Price points on Poivre 23 are: 160 GBP for the 50ml ($285) and 240GBP for the 100 ml ($425). Gulp.

    I'll sniff and see tomorrow

What I meant was that I think Le Labo does not allow stores to ship the city exclusives — otherwise they wouldn't be city exclusives :-)

HA — I actually thought to myself, wow, that's not as bad as I thought. Seriously, I think some of the others were more than that? But too lazy right now to go check.

Oh whoops yes, you're quite right!

LOL — but I just now read on MakeupAlley that perhaps they WILL ship. So I know nothing!

    Liberty + Malle = Heaven.

There seems to be NO connection between the names of the scents and the actual juices! I'm a fan of Annick Menardo but not a fan of Le Labo…

They are always named after the ingredient that is in highest concentration, that's all.

I can't make myself like Dans Tes Bras, no matter how much I love the name and tell myself it's by Maurice Roucel, so I'm not quite as excited as I'd like to be. I can 't afford the le Labo either, so I'll just be doing a sniff-and-walk, which will be heartbreaking if Poivre turns out to be wonderful. BTW, did you notice on the Liberty invitation that the 15% discount excludes Beauty and Fragrance, which is ?

I haven't tried DTB, and didn't get any invitation from Liberty! But figures if they're having a sale, they don't include perfume…

I don't think I could order it without trying it, especially if its really expensive.

They should come out with a Berlin exclusive soon so I can try it when I'm in Berlin next summer.

    I see you've made the change…

    Humph!

Still, it is lovely nonetheless, even if I feel like I've been caught with my trousers slightly down…

A kind person sent me an email early this morning to let me know. I don't see why you should feel caught with your trousers down, it wasn't your error!

I went to the talk given by Eddie Roschi at the Daikanyama shop in Tokyo for Gaiac 10. The immediate impression is that this scent epitomizes the Japanese characteristic – elegant, subtle at first and becoming of substance when time passes. Impossible to resist.Oh, and the price? A cool 37800Y for a 50ml bottle.

It's a nice scent — hopefully we'll have a review up soon — but at that price, I'll be able to resist :-)
