I just saw this yesterday at Marshall's for $7.99. They had about 4 Demeter fragrances. This smelled very nice and soft.

“Beeswax creates powerful memories of hot summer days and the freshest air imaginable… outdoors and far away from the urban sprawl.”

    Or

“Beewax creates powerful memories of hot, unairconditioned Russian Orthodox churches on summer Sundays, rows & rows of beeswax candles ablaze, warm stale air laden with thick clouds of incense, and a small child's unanswered prayers that someone would please just open a window already… inside and far, far away from the playground.”

Beeswax… warmth… incense… It may have been torture for you, but bottle it and I'll buy it!

There's a Russian Orthodox church on 25th & Geary in SF, the smell of incense and beeswax is amazing!

Oh lilydale, you should try Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab's No. 93 Engine. Gorgeous beeswax and incense fragrance. Very remniscent of a church.

No. 93 Engine notes- Balm of Gilead, benzoin, frankincense, balsam of peru, beeswax, saffron, galbanum, calamus, hyssop, mastic, lemon balm, and white sage.

You don't have to buy it! Head on down to any Orthodox church and it's yours for free! The scent will linger on your clothes for at least a day :)

It's very cozy-smelling in the winter, but it is too much in the summer.

Interesting to note that they change scents of incense during the liturgical year, too. Lily around Easter time, Orange blossom or Damask rose in the summer, Frankincense & Amber in the fall, Chypre in the winter, etc.

On second thought, if someone would have just opened a window, it would have been entirely bearable. Anytime a good number of people are crammed into a small space on a hot day with no air conditioning or an open window… it's bound to be overload for anyone, big or small.

Good memories, though! I think it's different for our kiddos now that there's air conditioning around, lol!

I fainted in church when I was a kid – summer day, all that standing and kneeling, too many people. Never had to go again!

I guess I need to wander by 25th and Geary one of these days – I like those smells.

I love the smell of Russian Orthodox churches (my mother was Russian Orthodox, although she went only for weddings, christenings, and funerals), but I can see how the closed windows would be a problem! I have the same problem with pipe tobacco — memories of long car trips with a friend, her father puffing away with the windows sealed shut… ugh, it makes me cough just thinking about it.

Valkyrie, thanks for the Black Phoenix tip — I just checked their Web site, and wow, what an odd outfit! Still, No. 93 sounds divine…

I wonder how this compares with L'Occitane's Honey…

Guessing it will be way more straightforward.

Oh no…beeswax, one of those notes that smells like waxy old church benches on my skin….anything beeswax or honey clashes on my skin and turns into awefulness!!!!!!
