Love, Ralph Lauren ~ new perfume

Ralph Lauren Love fragranceRalph Lauren has launched Love, Ralph Lauren, a new perfume for women:

An extravagant floral oriental Parfum—an exquisite fragrance of warm golden Amber, creamy sandalwood, Orris Root Butter, and its signature the Bulgarian rose, the iconic symbol of love.

Additional notes include patchouli. According to Lauren,

What I most wanted was for the fragrance to have quality. I wanted it to have some longevity; for the experts to say, ‘This is really special.’ I wanted something that was not this year’s fragrance or the luxury of the moment.

Love, Ralph Lauren is available in the limited edition bottle shown (15 ml Eau de Parfum, featuring a 24 karat, hand-painted gold cap with a 47-carat amethyst and a lucite stand, $2200) now for pre-order at Neiman Marcus. Later this year it will also be available in 15 ml Parfum (clear cap, $600) and 3 sizes of Eau de Parfum with garnet-colored caps ($75-$135). (first quote via neimanmarcus, second quote and additional information via wmagazine) Update: Neiman Marcus has a longer description of the fragrance now:

The Goji berry, reminiscent of an aged red wine, radiates throughout the fragrance; A vintage champagne accord adds a sparkling effect; Cool green water accord brings in an airy dimension.

The Bulgarian red rose imparts a lush floralcy that is the essence of elegance and sophistication; Combined with Chinese magnolia, the heart blends into a soft floral bouquet.

The amber introduces an alluring sensuality to the fragrance; Warm sandalwood; Creamy vanilla cast a golden luminosity.

Also now on the Neiman Marcus website, “regular” Eau de Parfum bottles in 50 ($90) and 75 ml ($135) and the “Crystal Parfum” ($600, refills $350).

ooooooh mama. What recession? ;-p (I'll be holding out for the lowly EDP – thanks anyway, Ralph)

My local NM has a tester already, although not surprisingly, it's plain glass ;-)

I gave it only a very quick sniff on paper, but it did not smell niche (or even costapacket) to me.

Yes, sometimes a girl just has enough lucite and whopping amethysts in her possession already, don't you think?

Hmphhh! Who do they think will buy it? Rich Ralph Lauren fans who don't want to smell anything but conservative?

The words creamy & butter are in the notes; I'm there. (I'll be waiting for the regular bottles, funnily enough)

I suppose! I wonder how many of the LE bottles were made?

Didn't want to risk it, R? Oh-oh…that doesn't sound too good.

Honestly, what did you think of it on paper?

    Hugs!

No, it's fine, it's one of those darkish ambery/patch clean “woods for women” scents, you know? Or at least, that's what I got based on the 5 seconds I paid attention. Not so interesting to me on paper as the new Tom Ford. At the time, I wasn't aware it was going to be available cheaply (thought it was only in the $2200 version) so I laughed at the audacity, but if I'd known, I would have taken it more seriously.

LOVE the heart-shaped bottle! I will be trying the EdP version (of course not the $2000 one). Hopefully it smells as nice as Notorious!

Well, this might just be the very first RL for me to Love. Iris, rose, sandalwood, amber – these truly are some of my favourite things. I thought RL Romance Eau Fraiche represented the nadir of modern perfumery – a synthetic, sharp, metallic, watery floral. So things are looking up, I feel!

The tester was heart-shaped, they had it laying on its side.

Thanks for the advice – no more unsniffed purchases for me, though I didn't regret Le Dix, which I bought on the strength of an Angela review!

ERRRR Vera Wang Princess, anyone??? The bottle's almost an exact copy, right down to the jewelled cap!

I was told about this by one of the L'Oreal execs… I almost forgot about it. The bottle is slightly Vera-ish, but at least its missing the hideous crown cap thing.

Eminere, So true! And not the connection you'd expect at this price.

True! Will be interested to see what the “clear” cap looks like. The tester I saw had no cap at all, or else I've just forgotten it.

I am a Sucker for anything Ostentatiously Luxurious! I might have to save up to splurge on that $2,200.00 bottle (but am already saving for a WICKED AUDACIOUS Pair of Chanel Boutique Sunglasses for $1,250.00!!!!) maybe i'll go for the $600.00 version, but i have to say i am utterly captivated by the sound of this fragrance. Bulgarian Rose is one of my favorite fragrances of all time (that and Damask Rose are the best rose essences) and Iris and Amber and Vanilla and Magnolia…. OH ME OH MY! That Bottle is only slightly reminiscent of Vera Wang Princess, this bottle is a HELLUVA lot more refined and Elenant and less Cheap looking than the “Princess” Bottles (although i like the Princess Scents!) I can't wait to get a whiff of this and hope my Ralph Boutique has it soon! By the way, I loved Notorious and am aching to get a bottle of that as well! Ralph has rarely done wrong when it comes to fragrance, so i am hoping high for Love!

By The Way…. Didn't YSL Have Fragrance way back Yonder called Love????

We are exact opposites: anything ostentatiously luxurious annoys me. But you should be able to smell it now at Neiman Marcus, and possibly Saks as well.

The YSL was “In Love Again”, but hard to believe this is the first fragrance called Love, isn't it? Just can't think of one.

..it seems they take now more and more care of the packaging and not of the scents anymore. rather have a beautifull scent in an unspectacular, yet affordable bottle, then a luxury bottle with a *i forgot how it smelled* scent.

I agree with NST – loud and ostentative lacks style.

The bottle is beautifull, but hey, I rather order one at LALIQUE directly if I have so much money;-)

Well, Style IS personal. I just like things over the top! it's fun and exciting, QUIET Luxury is wonderful as well… I think LUXURY in all it's facets, from the Quitest 24-ply Cashmere Blanket in the tamest yet most comfortable Taupe to the Cry Out Loud Luxury of a Hand Dyed, Baby Crocodile Hermes Birkin for $130.000.00 are Equally and Both VIABLY luxurious! We all have our own definitions and the things that pique our Psyche. I simply have always happily responded to things Glam and Live-Out-Loud Luxurious! I Don't honestly see that there is too much wrong with that. is there?

okay, say cashmere – got me, say handbags – got me, say jewels, got me! after all I am a girl fond of luxury. I

just do not get it this for perfumes. A cashmere blanket is cashmere (whatever the brand may be), you touch it, love it – but a perfume bottle with an amethyste is… boring. It remains packaging for me.

Glam and Live out loud is fine and you should keep it, don't mind the envious people.

In MY personal style I prefer things that does not scream their price out loudly. I would never buy a Birkin Bag because it is too obvious.

But with that I show that I care too much what others think – you do not and that is better! so no, there is nothing wrong :-)

The question should be: Is there quiet luxury?

    Hi there

For me, quiet luxury and understated elegance in perfumery is eptiomized by Chanel 31 rue Cambon, Cuir de Russie and now Beige. Sigh! Sooo quiet in fact that I am drifting off in a fragrant sleep…

Of course there's nothing wrong with it — to each their own!

I have seen the Love bottles in the window displays at Saks 5th Ave and they do not look anything like VW Princess (which is one of my fave scents). It is a really pretty bottle, a smooth 3 dimensional heart with a round jewel sitting atop the cap… unlike the facetted VW bottle with a crown. Though I am a big fan of Princess, Love I think takes the cake on a luxurious and sophisticated look. As for the scent, it was a bit strong at first spray but definitely grew on me as if started to dry. Unlike Notorious, that had come out last month, I found Love to last much longer on my skin, and I feel the scent alone is a bit more “notorious”. I definitely can't wait till a more affordable Love is available!

I was out at the Ralph Lauren store in Chevy chase and saw this parfum on stand…..It is expensive quite alrite, but it smells fantastic! u will hv to love its subtle but very enriched smell…

It smells rich and expesive but very subtle…very sexual too!

I love it love it love it!

I bought the 50ml, cause like we all know in this recession…evemn the 650 is a no no talk more of the 2200 …which the lady explained that because it has amethyst on its cover that is why it is that expensive but she also added…it (the bottle) can be passed on from generation to generation…… :-)

I've only tried it very quickly, will have to go back and try on skin. So glad you love it.

Have to laugh at the idea of passing on an empty perfume bottle to my children — that's pretty silly.
