A fatal attraction to cuteness

A short film for Gwen Stefani’s new Harajuku Lovers fragrances. Stefani does not appear; the model is Siri Tollerød. The video quality is less than perfect, sorry.

The bottles are so cute! The fragrance, though … sigh. I tried them at Nordie. I mean, look at them — my expectations were pretty low. But these are on a par with Vanilla Musk or Jean Nate, only I think I can buy those for five bucks. There's the one that smells like coconut, and the rest were pretty indistinguishable — light, fresh, fruity, floral.

Haven't tried them yet, M, but that would be about what I'd expect. She'll make a mint from them anyway, right?

That video was too cute. I love the song they used.
I'm sad to hear the fragrances aren't too interesting. L was okay… it was fresh and floral, but it had a certain thing going on it to it that… I dunno, it's hard to explain why I like it. Lol.
Anyway, I'm still looking forward to smelling them.

I'm looking forward to smelling them too…and to holding those bottles!

A fortune, no doubt. I had my 14YO with me and she squealed, they're so cuuuuuuuuuute!! But. Even she wasn't interested in any of the individual scents, and she likes perfume. I asked her about a couple of them and she shrugged.

I am still disappointed in L — I'd expected Gwen to do something more radical. OTOH Ma Dame is kinda growing on me, what is THAT all about? ;-)

Uh huh. And what's the target age range? 5 to 13?

I tried these at Nordstrom last week. Yes, it's true – these are not sophisticated, complex, multi-layered fragrances. The Love had a nice pomegranate/berry note & Baby had a fresh, clean sweet accord, just like you'd expect. G was the coconutty one, and I can't rember Music & Angel. But the point is, the bottles are so darn cute – that at $25 a pop (that's what the SA told me) it doesn't matter if these are olfactory masterpieces! The flacons are little post- modern Anime sculptures & I want to own them all…

I tried some too and liked G the best. I may have to have one just for the bottle but the supply was very low already! The scents aren't BAD – just nothing to write home about and I can live with that for $25.

Seriously, as near as I can tell adults are lemming these as much as kids. I wouldn't mind having one — they're hysterical.

With those bottles, if she'd even done “decent” it would be enough. If they're dull, that's really too bad.

I do think Ma Dame is fantastically well done.

I think one would be enough for me, but I wouldn't mind having one!

Ah, so they're selling well — figured they would!

i hope they sell out and not come back. i already despise celebrity fragrances, but to further insult a good nose by housing the below-average juice in a plastic doll? ugh. gaultier can put his stuff in a torso bottle, but you, gwen, haven't reached that status just yet. and maybe it will clearance out at walgreens or something. sorry i just feel really strongly about these.

See, if I'm going to get below-average juice, I'd much rather it be in a plastic doll — at least that makes me laugh ;-)

Just saw a full-page Macy's newspaper ad for these this morning (hadn't really paid attention before), and those bottles are really damn cute.

Apparently they tap into the inner pre-pubescent girl that I never knew was part of my personality. Or something. If my niece were a little older I'd consider buying her a set.

Still haven't gotten myself over there to see if they're as cute in person, but if they are, I might have to have one myself — so I guess we've all got an “inner pre-pubescent girl” we didn't know about :-)

I haven't tried these yet, but if they are anything like L, I won't like them. I really wanted to like L but the middle notes smelled so sour on me. The top and bottom were nice, but for a half an hour or so, I smelled like vinegar. The bottles are cute though. I think Gwen is targetting a much younger audience with these. Do you know if this is a TV spot? I wouldn't be suprised.

I assume it's a TV spot, although haven't seen it yet.
