Bergamote is relatively affordable – 70 euros I think I paid – c$100? That's the price of a night in a Hampton Inn (and only if you time it right!).

And yeah, the stuff ain't cheap. I like the Armani Prive line but have yet to meet one I'd pay for.

This does sound good, and I love the memories the concept evokes of the beautiful orange trees inside the courtyard mosque/cathedral in Old Cordoba. Not sure if I can afford the “Privé” line's prices though (and I really overspent in July again — gah!).

I'm being teased by TDC Bergamote — I must get a sample! Too bad about Eric not liking Terre d'Hermes, his description of Vitamin C reminds me of a review on Basenotes that made me laugh, which said that TdH smelled like an orange baby aspirin being crushed underfoot on hot, sunny rocks.

I had to laugh at this – my to-try list had to graduate from various scribblings on memo sheets to a full-on spreadsheet. I think I have about 70 on there now. I think I intimidated the SAs at Bloomie's and Nordstrom when I dragged it out of my bag – they really just wanted to squirt a little Juicy on me in hopes I would buy some and go away. The only good one was the guy in the men's fragrance dept. who washappy to show me things that would appeal to women (which added more to my list, since he was out of sample vials (sigh).

I have a similar amount on another spreadsheet of samples I already have!

Fun, though, isn't it?

I did manage to buy a few less-expensive things: EL Bronze Goddess, Bulgari Black, and a large bottle of good ole' 4711.

I love Terre d'Hermes, but I don't get a strong orange aspect. My husband and I were just sniffing at it and we both get the citrus, sure, but it seems more like the grapefruit to us. Now, I am new at this, but the basic composition reminded me of something else… I pulled out my Sel de Vetiver sample and sprayed it on the other hand. Voila! They have some striking similarities. TdH is rounder and softer, SdV is sharper and cleaner. I'm very attracted to both. The big difference, I imagine, will be in the drydown.

P.S. I think the Prive Oranger Alhambra sounds gorgeous!

Td'H's orange was quite orange-y. To me, it just smelled like these vitamin C tablets on which I used to practically overdose. Really, I have no idea why I want an orange fragrance. It's sort of illogical; I don't even like the real thing!

And thanks. I really had no idea what petitgrain is. I'm bulding up my vocabulary, though!

No, I haven't tried Bergamote yet, though it's on the must-sample list. The dauntingly-long must-sample list. I swear, I'm gonna go broke sampling before I even buy anything!

Should have said just in case — petitgrain is mostly twigs & leaves from the bitter orange tree. You probably already knew that.

Ah, the orange in Terre d'Hermes was so gorgeous to me! Petitgrain smells like wood, mostly, a little green, and I think of it as also smelling citrusy but maybe that is because it is most always used w/ citrus?

Light sharp orange, I think, though it smells indistinguishable from lemon to me. Have you tried TDC's Bergamote? That's my (and several other posters') HG orange scent.
