Azzaro Couture ~ new perfume

Azzaro Couture perfume 2008Azzaro has updated their first fragrance release, 1975′s Azzaro Couture for women, and will relaunch it this coming October. Vanessa Seward, Azzaro’s artistic director, noted that “Couture was one of Loris Azzaro’s favourite fragrances and I really wanted to work on it as a homage to him”.

The new juice was developed by perfumer Aurélien Guichard, and is described as a “lighter, more luminescent and fresh floral, which nonetheless retained the spirit of the original”. The notes include bergamot, galbanum, mimosa, rose de mai, jasmine, iris, ambrette seed and patchouli.

The packaging features a hand-blown glass bottle encased in a white plastic shell with Swarovski crystals embedded in the cap. The fragrance will be fronted by heiress and Unicef Ambassador Jemima Khan, who will donate her payment to Unicef.

Azzaro Couture will be available in refillable 75 ml Eau de Parfum, priced at €170 for a luxury coffret or €140 for a “regular” bottle. It will be exclusive to Neiman Marcus in the US. (quotes via cosmeticsinternational, additional information via moodiereport)

    It's preeetty…. @__@

The juice doesn't sound very interesting. It's exciting that it doesn't have any fruit (listed, anyway) but it just doesn't sound much different than another “fresh floral.” Also, it's a bit worrying when they lighten the original….

It is unlikely to offend me since I never smelled the original, although apparently it was a floral chypre. Aurelien Guichard usually does a lovely job, at any rate.

What a lovely bottle! Very sexy. I love mimosa (especially in Champs Elysees) so this might be worth a try for me. I'm sad that's it's an NM exclusive though… hopefully it will make its way into wider distribution.

I cannot decide if I like that bottle or not. It isn't love at first sight, that's for sure.

Not only is it NM-exclusive, it isn't even going into all the NM stores — going to be very luxe, I guess.

Not every NM store? Wow, very luxe…. Hope it comes to SF! (fingers crossed)

Not sure about the bottle either — the crystals in the cap don't get me.

It's very 80's sexy to me. Almost makes me want to put on shoulder pads and skinny pants. :)

LOL — that might be it.

Sniffed this at NM today and the middle and drydown remind me of a “red” Elixir des Merveilles – think abstract rose/raspberry/red fruit in place of the orange. I wonder if Azzaro Couture has ambergris too?

    Did you like it?

Umm, I'm not sure as I spent so long trying to figure out what it reminded me of! It's not a fruity-floral but the “redness” seems to be a olive branch in that direction – a way to grab those who do like f-f's. If you own and like Eau des Merveilles or Elixir dM, you probably don't need Couture, but if you didn't like the orange in the Hermes scents, Couture might be a better fit, despite the much uglier bottle.

Thanks, it sounds interesting! Will see if I can snag a sample.

My sister wore the original in the 1970s. Good chypre, sleek flacon in black, not white with sparkles. Must they tart up everything? Hope it makes it to Montreal, in any case.

Apparently they must! Hopefully they did a good job this time.

How disappointing! That would mean its nothing like the original (which was very lovely). I suppose it can't be replicated without the oakmoss :-(
