Lanvin Jeanne Lanvin, Canali Style ~ new fragrances

Jeanne Lanvin perfume by LanvinCanali Style cologne for men

Lanvin will launch Jeanne Lanvin, a new fruity gourmand fragrance for women, this coming July in France. It will not come to the US until September, at which time it will be exclusive to Saks.

Jeanne Lanvin was developed by perfumer Anne Flipo, who noted that she was “aiming for something simple yet sophisticated—impertinent and young—mirroring the modern woman Jeanne Lanvin was”. The Jeanne Lanvin perfume features notes of blackberry, pear, citron, raspberry, white freesia, peony, musk, sandalwood and amber.

Lanvin Jeanne Lanvin will be available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette Parfum and in matching body products. (via cosmeticnews)

Other recent launches from Lanvin: Rumeur 2 Rose.

Italian menswear line Canali has launched Canali Style, a new spicy-woody fragrance for men:

Self-assured, elegant and informal, Canali Style is developed for the sophisticated character aware of his own charisma.

Spiced and woody, this fragrance is elegant and contemporary – the essence of Italian style

The notes feature thuya wood from Morocco; I’ll post additional notes when I can find them. The packaging features “a heavy glass flacon braced by real metal shoulders to resemble a tailor’s suit”.

Canali Style is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching grooming products, and can be found now at Harrods in the UK. (first quote via harrods, second quote via cosmeticsinternational)

Yep. I really, really thought towards the end of 2007 that fruity florals were on the wane, but I was SO wrong.

I hope this isn't the major women's release they were planning for the end of '08…

I was hoping for something brand new, something that would revitalize the house as a perfumerie, perhaps with Natalie Portman as a spokesmodel (she's been wearing Lanvin almost exclusively lately).

A rerelease of Scandal, or My Sin, or something, that would not destroy the original formula…can you imagine what a modern women's mainstream leather scent would be like? Fantastic! (I don't count Kelly Caleche.)

    Pretty sure it is, sorry!

Though I've not gotten to sniff the discontinued Lanvins (I'm not sure how much of a leather fiend I am), I have smelled all that are out now (save Rumeur 2 Rose, which has been locked away under the stupid Dillard's counter and I don't like rose enough to deal with Dillard's SA's) but I think they're not that bad. I picked up Eclat d'Arpege Summer unsniffed for a friend who really enjoys fruity-florals and it was, much to our surprise, a beautiful floral with a slice of starfruit underneath. She hated it so I kept it. And Eclat d'Arpege is one of my favorites too and, granted, it's name is misleading in that I can't smell any Arpege in it, it's incredibly beautiful.

Therefore, I can't see Lanvin really selling out with something akin to today's fruity-floral monstrosities. Call me a sucker for a house, but I'm looking forward to sniffing this. Though, to be fair to you guys, I understand that this isn't what most of you are look for; it isn't necessarily what I look for either (fruit isn't really a big draw for me) but I've liked Lanvin's current work insofar, as I mentioned.

We'll see when it comes out.

    Man, I sound so naive. >…<;;;

The bottle is awfully cute. Do you think it comes with a ribbon? =o

Oh, and C'est Nichist, Natalie Portman is considered the “Holy Grail” of celebrities in regards to endorsements, according to an article in the April 2008 W: “[Portman has] turned down everything…. We've tried putting together deals [worth tens of millions of dollars] and it still has not worked.” It's a possibility, I guess, but it leads me to believe that she's just not into that whole trend. I agree, though; if she'd front a Lanvin perfume, I'd be pretty excited about it.

And now I'm naive and a dork. xD

(This is the comment that never ends….)

I like lots of Anne Flipo's scents, so I'm curious to smell it too — but we're on opposite sides of the fence w/ the modern Lanvins — I haven't liked a single one. The bottle does look nice, and don't know if that ribbon is part of the deal or not, but it should be !

Pretty bottle, but it sounds disappointing. So many fruity florals!

Yeah, that seems to be pretty common thought; Lanvin is sold in only about one or two stores here and they are not prominently displayed. In fact, they're so sparsely stocked it's sad. I guess that's good for me; I like more obscure, you've-probably-never-heard-of-it fragrances. ;D

Actually, the source article said a ribbon of… silk tuille (I can't remember exactly) is included. At least, that's how I read it.

Here's waiting for September. Let's hope it's nice; I'm not sure how Lanvin would fare if another perfume was to fail to sell.

Fruity floral? how bleeding edge. What's next? Tail fins? Shoulder pads? bustles?

I wonder if Jeanne is rolling over in her grave. A fruity floral in a bottle that looks like a Miss Dior Cherie flanker.

    Yep!

Thanks, you read the source article more carefully than I did, LOL…I just look for what I need and try to ignore all the marketing stuff.

Lanvin no longer owns their own perfume business, so it does not impact the fashion house at all (they sold to Inter Parfums).

    Tail fins!

I Think this Lanvin Creation will be Quite Pretty Smelling and not overly Cloying… also it's nice to have a fragrance not be a flanker… that turns me off almost immediately… I love roses in any fragramce and love a perfume built around roses, But I haven't even smelled and won't actively seek to smell Rumeur 2 Rose… the idea of taking something as Precious as Rumeur and reducing it to a flanker by fiddling with the formula to make a quick buck sickens me. I wish this Plague of Flankers would cease and disist (Do You hear Me Calvin Klein?) it's Manipulative and Artless.

As for the Canali, Never have heard of Thuya wood, but that bottle sure looks Desirable! Very Modern in almost a Bauhaus Kinda way! want to smell it incredibly just to see what in the world THUYA WOOD smells like! LOL!

and I like the Bottle for MDC But the Juice inside is DISASTOROUS! the Bottle is a take on the original Perfume Bottles for Miss Dior and Diorissimo and DIoressence and such back in the early 60's

xD Well, that makes sense; you have, like, eighty or so of these things to read daily and I bet all the “a sophisticated, urban blend of delicate flowers and exuberant fruit extracts that perfectly match the modern woman's sentiments” gets old quickly.

Well, still, I think that if this isn't a hit, we won't be seeing much from Lanvin perfumes.

I did not care for Rumeur so the Rumeur 2 Rose probably didn't offend me as much as it did you. We'll have to hope you're right about “quite pretty smelling” :-)

Oh, I think you're right …. Inter Parfums could decide the label is not worth developing. But I think they paid quite a bit for it, so they might not give up TOO quickly. And I've no idea if Rumeur sold well or not…

I just wanted to add that I haven't seen or heard anything about Canali Style, but we did get Canali Black Diamond in, and it's selling out quickly. It has tonka bean, musk, wood, orange blossom, violet, leather accord… I really like the dry down… sexy… I wonder if you've come across anything on it? It's exclusive to Nordstrom.

Yes, I did announce Black Diamond — click on the Canali link in the article and you'll find it!

I know it's a months old announcement but I finally got to try Canali Style.

I'm sad to report that it's weak and boring. Oh the scent is there (spicy-woody, yup) but if it was turned up to Joop!'s cloying levels it would be really good… and reviewable.

What a shame! I haven't seen it yet, but then, also haven't gone looking for it.
