I think that YSL Paris was one of my first perfume purchases, probably the year it was released. Smelling it today brings back such vivid memories of that time of life. I still adore it, though I no longer own it. I ought to buy at least a sample to honor YSL.
Shall wear a dab of 'Y' today in honour of YSL.

My introduction to YSL Paris came about very oddly. I was at the perfume counter, talking with my favorite SA, when this attractive young man came in – he was a family friend of hers so we began chatting as well…he then took care of his transaction, said goodbye and left the store. When I finally got ready to buy my stuff, the SA handed me a very prettily wrapped box. The gentleman had bought me a bottle of Paris! just because he'd had such fun chatting with me. Very charming.
I no longer wear Paris but today I will wear my favorite shocking-pink lipstick from YSL in honour of M. Yves
The shoulder pads!!! It looked great on her, but with the benefit of hindsight, I'd say it did not look great on everyone. Me included.

That is SO 1988!! I had the almost exact same earrings. I was sad when shoulder pads made their exit — sick as I was of looking like a linebacker! — because hey, didn't they make our hips look svelte by contrast?!
P.S. Saw the Sex and the City movie yesterday, speaking of fashion. It was horrible. The characters have gone from smart and independent to spoiled, narcissistic, uber-materialstic (and you thought they couldn't get much worse!) whiney, immature and just plain dumb. Pooh!

Oh, what a shame the SATC movie was a wash. Although my colleague saw it today and loved it, and she's quite cerebral! Oh well, different strokes…I know I wore shoulder pads. *shudder* and I now wonder how that ever was considered attractive?? Yuck.
The shoes were very classic, stiletto heels but two inches or two and a half inches, pointed toes like in the '60s, not long points like the end of the '90s/early 2000s and there were shoes with a heavier heel but with the shape 'rounded with the back side of the shoe-in one line' and a little higher closed. When this video begins you can see those heavier beautiful heels.
You mean those two guys slept in the back seat all the way to Paris and didn't offer to drive once?!?!?! If that were me they would have been hitchhiking about 800 km from the city! (LOL)
I don't miss the shoulder pads either, but they worked on this jacket because of the length and because the fabric was fluid. I seem to remember short, stiff jackets with the linebacker shoulders. Sigh, that's what happens when a style trickles down from the Yves Saint Laurent original to something that I can afford.
I was just recently introduced to the Paris fragrance, and so don't have some people's bad memories of smelling it on everyone, and of it being overpowering (although I'm sure it can be that way if oversprayed). But I love it. Wearing it, I feel somehow that I'm lifted a few socioeconomic brackets, transformed from an ordinary person to a wealthy Manhattan socialite, off for an evening at a ballet gala! Or maybe I just have a good imagination.
Anyway, thanks for the fashion, YSL, and rest in peace.

The trick with shoulder pads was that they had to be considerably more than five feet off the ground to look good, and at a total height of 5'5″ in stocking feet, my shoulders just weren't high enough!

I haven't seen it, but suspect the review entertained me more than the movie would
