Fragrance gifts for Father’s Day 2008, part 1

Am I crazy, or did Father’s Day creep up extra fast this year? It’s coming up on Sunday, June 15th, so time to get shopping…

Cire Trudon Empire candleIf Dad deserves a gift fit for a king (or make that an emperor), how about an Empire candle from Cire Trudon? “Pine, sage and hay are vibrating in the air of the Napoleonian camp with hints of cades and maquis. The joyful and indulging warmth of thyme, marjoram and rosemary ring like a fife…” And so on. $70 at Aedes.

Tom Ford Oud Wood
If Dad has more modern tastes, perhaps one of the Tom Ford Private Blend scents? Oud Wood features “An exotic rose wood and cardamom, blended with exuberant Chinese pepper…Eventually, the center exposes a smokey blend of rare oud wood, sandalwood and vetiver. Finally, the creamy scents of tonka bean, vanilla and amber are revealed.” $165 for 50 ml Eau de Parfum, from Neiman Marcus.

Juicy Couture Diry English Hair Pomade
A budget gift alternative: the Juicy Couture Dirty English Hair Styling Pomade: “A luxe emollient with the power to keep your hair sticking up or lying down – on command. Just smear some in your palm, apply it to wet or dry hair, then twist, pull, shake…all night long.” Presumably it smells like Dirty English? Only $18, at Dillards.

Spiced Rum Shaving SoapAnother budget option: a homemade Spiced Rum Shaving Soap with Round Dish: “This is a perfectly scented, spicy and masculine shaving bar with rich lather for a smooth shave. It is scented with cinnamon, clove, and vanilla, and is coloured with cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. Of course, it has authentic Captain Morgan spiced rum in it, too!” At Birch Bark Handmade Soap at Etsy, $7 (and also check out the Coffee Kitchen Soap, $5 each).

Dr Vranjes Zefiro cologneNeed something more luxe? Here’s the Dr. Vranjes Zefiro fragrance, “a distinguished, elegant, and civilized masculine blend with top notes of fresh vetiver, herbs, tea and hints of fresh green. Middle notes emerge of smooth leather and spices while precious woods, sandal, macis flowers and myrrh settle into a magnificent scent that’s unmistakably masculine, perfectly balanced and warm.” $225 at Your Cosmetics.

I just got a vision of the look my farmer father would shoot me if he unwrapped something like that lovely candle and laughed so hard, I almost fell out of my chair. He'd be somewhere between asking why I just didn't get him some more tools (which are all he ever wants) and asking what he was suppossed to do with the danged fiddly thing (Burn it, but that wouldn't occur to him automatically).
Don't take this as me dissing on you, R, because I'm sure there are fathers out there who'd really like it and there's not much unique on the smelly market for men. In fact, after thinking about my dad's reaction, I'm almost tempted. He needs to break out of his rut. :-)

LOL — no worries, I'm WELL aware that there are many fathers, mine included, who have absolutely no interest in anything scented. And for that matter, my husband would prefer tools over anything shown above ;-)

Ooh, I WANT that TF Oud Wood, even though being a father is nowhere on my immediate horizon.. ha! I don't think I'll be springing for myself it at that price either, but it sure is tempting — both the bottle and the notes.

A man without children would be better able to afford the TFPB line, LOL…agree it is tempting :-)

Yeah, but as noted above, you're more likely to get a new socket wrench set or something ;-)

    Dad-Schmad!

I'll be getting these lovely little things for myself-Thank you very much!

Dad would be thrilled with a new bottle of Azzaro…. but then again… mom swore that she would d-i-v-o-r-c-e him it he ever went near that “that filty smelling *&%$#*”! (her words, not mine… but I agree with her)

Guess I'll have to go shopping for tools…again!
