Things I Want, part 876

Vivaterra vetiver hamperA laundry hamper made out of vetiver!

Cleansing, aromatic vetiver weave surrounds two easily removable bags in the slim-profile, linen-lined rectangular hamper-to separate darks from lights. We added circular wooden handles for effortless lifting.

$169 at Vivaterra, where they’ve also got vetiver floor mats (“heat and moisture reinvigorate the scent, making it ideal for the bathroom”) and “vetiver balls”. Many thanks to meggie67 for the link!

Wow! I've wanted vetiver blinds ever since I read about them in Madhur Jaffrey's memoir. She describes the way her mother would lower them in the heat of the day and spray them with water so that when the breezes blew threw them the room would be filled with cool, damp, vetiver…

Vetiver blinds, how wonderful! Have you seen them anyplace?

Now can't remember if I ever knew MJ had written a memoir — do love her cookbooks. Or did, back when I used to cook.

I remember seeing the floor mats and thinking they sounded heavenly, but not as heavenly as the window blinds!

how wonderful, especially for a hot, humid environment! I want some, too!

No, I haven't seen the blinds anywhere — just saying that your post got my hopes up again! I assume they are everywhere in India…

And yes, Madhur came out with her memoir, Climbing the Mango Tree, in 2006. It's pretty good — worth a read — though quite odd in some ways. Not a whole lot of food, for one thing.

Oh, that sounds lovely, as do vetiver blinds.

In the meantime, I'd like a cheap sandalwood fan that I can use without fear: I have a delicate Chinese one that a friend broke when she tried to use it. I love objects made of scented materials.

I will have to look for it. Little or no food is fine with me since I've given up cooking…

J, sandalwood is so scarce now that I can't believe you could find a real fan that wasn't outrageously priced. Or, if you can, then I'm mad that they've taken the sandalwood out of all my favorite perfumes and used it for fans ;-)
