An oldie but goodie

Am I the only one on earth who’d never seen this? I don’t think I’ve ever seen any fragrance commercials from Hermès (someone please comment if you know of any newer ones). This one is for the lovely Eau des Merveilles. The model is Jeisa Chiminazzo, and I think the music is Bluebird Of Happiness by Mojave 3.

I have never seen this either or any other commercial by Hermes for that matter. When did this one come out?

If it is recently then maybe there will be another followup fragrance, but that is pure guessing.

By the way, I like Eau des Merveilles a lot more than Elixir d. M. but that is another subject.

That's beautiful! It makes me go want to spritz from my bottle of Eau de Merveilles. (And, to be honest, it was an unsniffed purchase in winter that was just “meh” on me. Maybe with the summer and it's EdM's beachy notes, I will finally be able to appreciate it.)

    Hi, Robin,

I'm new to this blog and am finding it fascinating! Nice that you are talking about Eau des Merveilles. I was just thinking that although I like it very much, I would like something with a similar dry-down, only without the citrus note. I'm really not acquainted with the perfume world. Do you know fragrances that fit into this (lame and generic) description? Thank you and congratulations for the blog!

No, no, it is definitely an old commercial. I like the Eau better than the Elixir too.

The song is indeed “Bluebird of Happiness” by Mojave 3. And I hope Hermès paid them a pretty penny for the rights. They truly, truly deserve it.

Bia, maybe you will like Simply by Clinique?

I'd recommend starting with their 4AD debut, “Ask Me Tomorrow” and then “Out of Tune.” “Spoon and Rafter”, the album that contains “Bluebird of Happiness” (which, incidentally, was also used in a Hummer commercial here in the U.S.), is a terrific album, but I think it benefits by listening to where Mojave 3 started. Neil Halstead is one of my all-time favorite songwriters.

I put Eau des Merveilles in a very special occasion: the defense of my thesis. It was great! I felt it had a powerful effect on me, as it is not a delicate nor subtil perfume, but an assertive one. Here's a good idea for a post: the associations between perfumes and emotional states. :-)
(Robin, it's the first time I write to you and I must say that here in Brazil you have a lot of constant and happy readers, myself included!) ;-)

Beautiful and so, well, colorful and effervescent!

I gave Eau de Merveilles EdP and the powder to my MIL for Christmas. She loves it.

Isn't that a great ad? I love Hermes.

Thank you for the suggestion, Marianne! Will try it soon! The name kind of evokes what I'm looking for: a quiet (but misteriously sexy as Merveilles) and not too fussy fragrance…

Yes, maybe the Parfum is a good try! The SA at the store told me that she did not know that the Parfum existed, so I just tried the Eau and the Elixir, which I did not like that much. Will look for the Parfum, thank you!

Thank you, Robin, for showing me the article! Yes, Angela is right, there is a strong connection between perfumes and emotions. I had a great sensation once when I smelled Le Baiser du Dragon for the first time. The composition of the perfume seemed to match my own personality – aparently strong (patchouli, vetiver), but deeply delicate and sensible (rose, iris). The flowers in it came so unexpectedly that it brought tears to my eyes. It only happened once, but it was fantastic! After this experience, I thought that maybe I cried too because I remembered my grandmother (who died when I was nine), who had a parfum with some notes like Baiser du Dragon. And she had a personality like this two – strong and delicate – , so it was a combination of two things: my memories and the sweetness of the flowers that appeared so suddenly from the “power” of the vetiver and the patchouli, exactly like a dragon's kiss. :-)
