Celebrity perfume news round-up 2008, part the second

Halle BerryIn case you must know…

Halle Berry! Yes, she's apparently signed with Coty, and will have her own fragrance line in “mid-tier” and mass market stores by spring 2009. Also in the works at Coty: fragrances for men under a new deal with Playboy magazine. (via Women's Wear Daily).

Amy Winehouse? Maybe. It doesn't sound very definite to me (and my personal plan is to go on being blissfully unaware of who or what or why she is until I read they've signed the contract). But if you must know more, check out this article in The Sun.

Wondering how much Britney Spears makes from her fragrance deal with Elizabeth Arden? According to the New York Times, 2 or 3 million a year. Not that much, considering she spends $16,000 a month on clothing. Read the rest here.

Winehouse once said she wore an Escada 'you could only get in the US' – I interpreted that as Collection- it would certainly fit her, I think. Here's to hoping she comes out with something similar.

I like Halle Barry – I'm afraid I won't like her anymore now. lol

With Amy Winehouse I imagine a perfume like they were created in the '50s or '60s. Strong, outspoken and feminine.

A clothing line plus makeup line could sell very well.

I liked Hale Berry as a model for Revlon.

Zippy, didn't know Collection was only in the US!

She is still under contract w/ Revlon, I think.

Amy Winehouse with a beauty range?

Please; she always looks a mess, who'd want to copy her style?

I don't think it was, but I can see someone getting told it's an LE and assuming that means US only. Or if they can't find it in stores or online except in the US coming to that conclusion.

    My FAVORITE actress! HOLLA!

Does she? Well, as I said, it doesn't sound very much like a “sure thing” to me. We'll see!

    She's certainly gorgeous :-)

Whenever I see poor Amy in the news, I'm afraid I imagine the smell of fags, unwashed hair and vomit…I can't begin to contemplate a scent associated with her image. But then Britney's scents are still selling, and I doubt if anyone still associates her with 'cupcakes and milk'.

Amy Winehouse perfume: combination of Aqua-Net hairspray, dirty armpits, cheap wine and an overpowering stench of cigerette smoke found in basement music clubs. I love her music, have NO DESIRE for any perfume that plays off her image.

True enough on Britney, isn't it? The more trouble, perhaps, the better.

Kelly Red, I was on the verge of googling Amy Winehouse, but now I think I *will* wait until she signs a fragrance contract.

Robin, is Believe Britney Spears selling well?

Robin, you've probably heard Amy W. on the radio already but thought it was an old girl group single…with strangely modern lyrics. I read one article about her that said she sounded like “the ghost of Sarah Vaughn.” That's a bit much — The Divine Ms. Vaughn is irreplaceable–but there's a definite resemblance. She fascinates me because she's such an odd post-modern phenom: a working class Jewish Brit who is modeling her sound after Black American women from the 1960's to such a degree that sometimes her music sounds (to me) like a Broadway show about girl groups. A really great one…

Every now and then I wish a little wish that she'll get her act together and not self-destruct–or not finish self-destructing anyway. The Rolling Stone ran a heartbreaking article on her last summer–the (female) author dripped with condescension…

See? Now you don't have to google! :-)

I've read it's done fine — not her biggest seller ever, but fine.

One of the reasons I'm so out of it is that I haven't listened to the radio since I bought my iPOD. If she seriously sounds anything on earth like the ghost of Sarah Vaughan, I ought to give her a listen. But I assume she isn't HUGEly popular, or even I would have heard of her.

She just won FIVE Grammys: Record of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Pop Vocal Album, and Female Pop Vocal Performance. If you saw one photo of her you would remember, heavy cat eye liner, beehive ratty hair do, skinny as a rail. Her voice is FABULOUS, her life is a mess.

LOL — you're kidding? That is really pathetic that I haven't heard of her then. I have seen a photo of her because there were photos in all the fragrance articles about her this morning, but didn't recognize her at all. But hey, I know who Halle Berry is, at least for that.

Her voice is supergood! Hope that she will find her balance back in her life and find a way to cope without drugs.

She has a great singing voice and she can get soul into a song in a way that always surprises me. It's only when you hear someone else trying to deliver the same song that you realise how good she is, You may have heard 'Rehab', with lyrics something like “They wanted me to go to rehab; I said No, No, No.” It would be a real shame if she lets it all collapse. But a perfume? Come on, the girl can barely stand up; she'd sniff paper strips only if…well, better not go there.

Ok, spent 30 minutes on Wikipedia & YouTube. Listened to “Rehab”. Hard for me to say how good I think she is, it's too mixed up in all the other stuff I read — wandering around the streets of London in her bra in the middle of the night, etc. Was probably just as happy being unaware of her existence, LOL!

She's musically talented, and I really enjoy listening to her songs.

As for her life, I think she got completely caught up in the Hollywood party machine, and it's just chewing her up and spitting her out.

I don't know how anyone else feels about it, but I think the five Grammys that she did win were well deserved. All she has to do is work through the big mess she's made right now. As for a perfume? Hmmm, don't really know… Methinks it might be a better idea if she just stuck to her day job.

Halle Berry is a fantastic actress, but I'm not sure about her venture into perfume. I'm pretty sure it's going to be your run-of-the mill people pleaser, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and hope for the opposite.

Well, we'll see on both counts — won't be surprised if we never see a perfume from AW, and won't be surprised if HB's effort is a run-of-the-mill people pleaser.

Oh me, oh my! I must be clairvoyant. I just submitted an Amy Winehouse inspired fragrance for that faux ad-copy competition and then rumors are afloat that it may actually come to fruition. Anyone want to commission me to pick their winning lottery numbers now?

Was just reading about that! Don't think it necessarily means we'll see it any sooner. If it's to launch in spring 2009, they'll probably introduce it to the press a few months before that.
