Clinique Happy Personalized Photo Bottle

Clinique Happy fragrance in personalized photo bottle

Clinique has launched a new program allowing customers to customize the bottle for their Happy fragrance:

Available just in time for the holidays, it’s a fun way to add a touch of personalization to your favorite fragrance and makes the ordinary gift unique. And the best part is that for each personalized photo bottle sold, Clinique will make a $1 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters, a program that changes the lives of disadvantaged children and gives them a better chance of success – up to $10,000.

[...] Upload your digital photos, which can be rotated and cropped according to the dimensions of the bottle. Preview the final image before ordering your new bottle, which will be delivered to your door in two weeks.

The custom Happy fragrance is $52 for 100 ml ($2 more than the regular price), and can be ordered at Clinique’s website. (via press release from Clinique)

Oh, that is so smart and would be such a nice present! I just wish I liked that scent!

It's a great idea, and I appreciate that they didn't make it ridiculously expensive.

Great idea. Just wish it didn't have to come with Happy in the bottle. Now, if l'Artisan could offer the same service…

LOL — true, although you'd have a hard time wrapping a photo around the L'Artisan bottle. You need to think of something else with a bottle as plain as Happy's…

Parfum d'Empire should fit the bill.

Two dollars more for Clinique Happy with personalised photo and only one dollar goes to Big Brother Big Sister? I'm not buying that.

Then I would much rather give two dollars to B.B.B.S. directly.

Of course, with any of the fragrances that give a portion of the proceeds to charity, the amount per bottle is not huge, but still, better than nothing — and if you were going to buy Happy anyway, this seems like a good way to do it.

Robin, in my opinion Happy has been a big success for such a long time that Clinique doesn't really has to charge two extra dollars for both a picture and a charity case. One dollar extra would just do for Big Brother Big Sister. People would go for it anyway. Fiftyone dollars for all Clinique Happy fragrances would do just fine too if the one dollar would go to B.B.B.S. and the personal picture would be something extra nice with the purchase for the coming holidays.

You could do some interesting bottles — not necessarily w/ photos of people.

It would be nice think Clinique came up with this idea on their own, but the fact is, I met with Estee Lauder over 4 years and presented this concept to them in a meeting with their senior vp of marketing. One of the slides presented in that confidential meeting is identical to the graphic above being used to sell this concept. I am now in the position of having to defend my rights to the intellectual property that was presented to Estee Lauder that has now found its way into the marketplace. I doubt it's the way Estee Lauder would have done business herself.

See for yourself the concept worked out in an even more elaborate way that doesn't require printing each bottle separately:

And I actually own a utility patent on my bottle design. So it's rather odd to be seeing this bottle in the marketplace after talking meetings with Estee Lauder that were arranged by the former head of the Fragrance Foundation.

Obviously I have no way of evaluating your claim, but wish you luck.
