Seemed like the real thing…

The new commercial for Gucci by Gucci, which opened Gucci’s recent Spring & Summer collection at Milan’s fashion week. It was directed by David Lynch and features Blondie’s Heart of Glass. According to Frida Giannini, Gucci’s Creative Director, “I wanted our first television advertising campaign to have that whimsical touch from a visionary film director such as David Lynch. I wanted him to capture the total essence of Gucci – and I’m thrilled with the result”. (via vogue.co.uk)

Err, I don't care if they're gorgeous models. They can't dance – all that flailing around cracked me up.

    Glad I wasn't the only one…

Me, too. The whole arm-flailing thing seemed inexplicably goofy! I don't get it at all. But better than Tom Ford's perfu-porn or Diddy's sad, empty, and terminally dull sexual exploits, I suppose. What's the perfume world coming to?

LOL…exactly what I was thinking – couldn't they have picked two models who could do more than flail their arms around limply? Perhaps there's more to this one than meets the eye? Seems bizarrely straightforward for David Lynch. Perhaps you have to play it backwards.

I have my usual reaction to anything David Lynch-
    I want that house!

Like most David Lynch, I don't get it. It looks gorgeous and he obviously has his normal twinning thing going on (two beautiful somehow-connected women who can't dance). But it doesn't particularly say “Gucci” to me.

Goofy, and kind of boring, I thought.

That's what YouTube needs — a play it backwards option!!!

It doesn't say anything to me, and I didn't really want to watch it twice — which is why I think it is essentially a failure. Good (or even just interesting) perfume commercials I'll watch several times.

David Lynch fan here, even have a collection of his short films. But this ad is a bust, dullsville. Looks like a tiny snippet from Twin Peaks, but without any sort of plotline, even a mini-plotline. Bleh. I hope the scent is better.

I'm a HUGE Lynch fan, and I liked it!

You know, the ad COULD have gone along the same lines as this:

    Thankfully, it didn't!

There is something reminiscent of that basement scene, isn't there? Can't remember it well enough to say what though.

After watching this, I wondered if the Gucci scent has hallucinatory effects. Or if it smells like cocaine.

Augh…When I saw the fabulous dresses in Vogue this is definitely NOT the setting I imagined them in. It has sort of ruined them for me!

Not worth dressing up for, eh?

That was funny and trippy. Kind of like those fake saturday night live commercials. I think I might be too sober to wear that perfume. :D

Hey, “fake SNL commercial” is exactly what it looked like!!
