Michael Kors Island Capri ~ new fragrance

Michael Kors Island Capri perfume

Michael Kors, who admits to being “a little island-obsessed”, will follow this year’s Island Hawaii with a new limited edition fragrance, Island Capri. Island Capri…

…has top notes of sparkling orange bigarade, crisp green Italian basil and succulent bergamot; a heart of rose petals, violet de parma, jasmine blossom and fig, and a drydown of olive tree accord, warm white moss and sensual skin accord.

Michael Kors Island Capri will launch in November, and will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum and matching body products. (first quote via The New York Times, second via Women’s Wear Daily)

Update: see a brief review of Michael Kors Island Capri.

Okay, have to try this one! Basil! And violets! Olive tree? Hmm. I do love basil in a fragrance, but I couldn't wash his previous offerings off my arm fast enough, so I hope this one is better!

The notes sound nice! I did like one of the Islands, but now I can't remember which it was.

I don't really like the previous offerings but this one makes me curious, I'll admit. I'm surprised he didn't make a Santorini Island – he did launch a Sandorini basket tote this year after all :P

I agree with everyone – this does look interesting, and I like the idea of finding something wearable, affordable, and has matching body products. His others sounded so sweet that I did not give them a second look, but this sounds nicely grown-up. Too bad we have to wait until November, by which time I will most likely have forgotten all about it. :)
Gail, have you tried Rossellini's Manifesto? It only comes in an EDT, but has basil topnotes and is nice for hot & humid days. I like basil as well, and would love to hear what basil scents you recommend.

To me, Island Hawaii is very unisex. I absolutely love it–finally breaking down and getting a bottle today. I'm wearing it out tonight as a matter of fact. It's still quite hot and juicy here in Georgia. I hope Island Capri reaches beyond gender boundaries as well. The notes are very intriguing!

If he is going to keep doing 2 a year, Santorini is surely coming ;-)

Did not think Island itself was overly sweet — actually rather well done, although I don't love aquatic scents.

Need to go try Hawaii again, can't remember if I liked that one or Fiji.

I've actually been wearing Manifesto for years! That's what made me decide I liked basil in a perfume. I haven't had much luck in finding more basil perfumes. Jo Malone has one, but it goes very masculine on me. I've mostly contented myself with products for the home. So I will definitely make the effort to sniff this one when it comes out.

I know that of the three, Hawaii stood out for me as being a little more interesting, memorable, a little less generically tropical. All of them are VERY expensive here in Canada. The component line-up of Capri's sounds intriguing — the most unusual of all — so I know I'll be looking for it waaay off in November. In the meantime, if anyone's dying for a new Itallian-islandi-inspired frag and sees Adrienne Vittadini's Capri — they're practically giving it away online — it's very sheer and pretty, with a crisp limoncello top note, and it'll see you through September and October.

Thanks, I will check out the Jo Malone.

Had not even heard of that AV scent, thanks!

My pleasure. For anyone interested, Vittadini's Capri — discontinued now, I believe, but still around — has limoncello, island tree moss, black currant buds, jasmine, muguet, water lily, white osmanthus, rosewould and musk, so it's lighter and fresher than a tropical “island” scent. It's featherlight but the staying power is comparatively impressive. Venezia is the second in what I believe was to be a whole series of Italian place-name scents from AV, but nothing happened past these two, as far as I know. Venezia is lovely, too, in the same ethereal way as Capri, and smells more northern, as you'd expect, with bergamot, violet leaves, red currant, plum, red rose, jasmine, wisteria and sandalwood. It's a pretty pair — I often wear one on each wrist! A shame the scents didn't launch the intended series; I would have loved to have sniffed Sienna, et al.

I'm intrigued by the idea of AV Sienna etc, etc. I'm envisioning “Firenze” as incorporating the smell of oils and marble dust… maybe not. Regardless, thanks for the info – I'll definitely add these to the wish list.

Oh, I like the sounds of that! And Rome — some motorscooter exhaust and lots of garlic??? Maybe not, either. Glad I was able to pique your interest — really, they're GIVING them away out in cyberworld, and theyr'e lovely. . .

I love your idea for “Rome”. I watched La Dolce Vita last night, speaking of Rome. And I am definitely going to buy both of those AV's, not to worry. My resistance has already been broken. :)

What a stylish film that was. Dark sunglasses, raven tresses, lovely jawlines, mod scarves. . .Interesting how many scents are named after Italian hot spots. Let's see — Capri twice, Venezia, Tuscany, Sicily, Roma. . .Funny that the French don't seem to look farther than Paris for inspiration. Or am I overlooking something obvious?
