I haven't tried Strip, but it seems to be based on notes from the original AP -- might not suit you if you didn't like the original (?)

Well, I finally managed to test the 2 AP fragrances, the orginial and Maitresse and I didn't like either of them. I have not tested Strip yet, and I am pretty sure I won't get that chance., but I sure hope it's different from the first two AP scents. Have you tested Strip ?

I'm sorry, but I only gave it a brief try on a scent strip -- I'm really not going to be able to be any more help. Aldehydes can be very soft though, esp. once the top notes evaporate.

well, I am not crazy about floral aldehydes either, and at first I ruled out Maitresse, but according to the ENORMOUS amount of reviews that I 've read all over the internet these past few days, trying to make a decision about what to buy, I've noticed lots mentioning how Maitresse is sweet and sexy and has a really good subtle drydown, and it kinda confused me. I don't see anything sublte about aldehydes. Would you say Maitresse is anything like Chanel no.5 or YSL Rive Gauche? does it have the same synthetic feeling to it?

I don't know when Tease will come out, in fact, it's just a rumor at this point so far as I know. But since they did Strip+Tease candles to start, it seems likely that we'll see a Tease scent.
I really didn't like Maitresse at all, in fact, I didn't even put it on skin, but then, I'm not really a huge fan of aldehydic florals. Not sure what I'd compare it to other than any other aldehydic floral. It is soft though, and maybe easier to take in some ways than the original AP.

I would not compare the original AP to any of those.

Michael Edwards classifies AP as "mossy woods", which is how he classifies most chypre scents.

I forgot one thing..I noticed that AP is sometimes classified as chypre floral, other sites classify it as oriental spicy. Which one is it?

Ah, that makes it hard. Not sure what to recommend. I don't think AP is universally loved by any means. I like it, but don't adore it, and doubt I'd ever go through a whole bottle. Interested to try Strip, or the upcoming Tease, either of which might be lighter without being so light and airy as Emotionelle.
