As I said, totally different sort of thing. It is *not* the natural scent of a beach, and it isn't something I'd wear all the time, but I find it the perfect "scent memory" of an Atlantic coast beach vacation when I was a child.

Sorry to recommend more, I know the samples are pricey! And thanks so much for the kind words :-)

I had overlooked CB At the Beach, but now I am wildly curious about it. Thanks for the tip! I am not certain about the Coppertone part, but the base sounds really enticing. I'll have to order a few more of his 2 ml trial sizes at the same time to make it worth while.... And I was trying to not spend more money on scent for a while.

I am learning so much from your blog, thanks again for taking the time to do all this. I am sure it is a labor of love to a great degree, but still.

Will have to get myself another sample of MHH, I passed it on to someone who was dying to smell it. Have you tried CB's At The Beach? Totally different sort of thing, but I think it is a great scent.

I find makeup (and the people who sell it) incredibly intimidating, but I guess if I were to start wearing it, I would be more inclined to experiment rather than get it prescribed to me. I agree that the software probably takes the fun away from makeup, and no doubt would from scent as well.

Re: MHH, I tried my sample of it the next day, and it does seem more oceanic than Eternal Return, as well as a little more complex.

Oh, and on that article -- interesting, but if they ever find a way to pull that off for fragrance it won't be any fun any more, will it? I mean, I suppose I probably wear the wrong lipstick color, but the process is the fun, not the outcome -- I want to shop and play, not just have the perfect lipstick :-)

Finally had the chance to try Eternal Return today. Most unfortunately, I am out of Mr. Hulots Holiday so can't compare, but going on memory, I like MHH much better. I am not even sure why. MHH really charmed me, and this one just doesn't. I do get some ocean, but only in the early stages, then mostly wood as you say, and while it isn't bad, it just doesn't speak to me.

Thanks for letting me know. TinyURL it is!

http://tinyurl.com/23jpva

I would have posted it in the URL window provided, but that keeps exploding when I try it. I hope this does not appear multiple times.

I'm curious as to what you'll think of Eternal Return. I love the name and the description, but I think what I am looking for is more the smell of the ocean. Not so much "marine", but perhaps "oceanic"? "Brine"? But not "beach with tourists".

I just got my samples too, but haven't had a chance to put any of them on yet. I do love cypress so will try that one first!

Yes, you can include links, but not html...so just paste the link and others have to use copy & paste to get there. If it is long though, do use tinyurl or it will stretch the whole page.

I received my 2 ml of Eternal Return yesterday, and I am mostly getting the cypress, which came on pretty strong at first, and after about 5 hours of wear, is less intense. The ocean air is not coming through for me, and the wood is pretty faint. I like the cypress, and hopefully further testing will bring out the wood and ocean part. I also ordered the 2 ml of Mr Hulots Holiday, to compare and contrast, and last night it seemed maybe a little warmer, but otherwise similar. I realize my descriptions are pretty pathetic, but that's the best I can do right now.

The link is to a Scientific American story about makeup, not fragrance, but I'm betting someone will find it interesting. I'm not sure how that could be done with fragrance (at least not yet).
