Oh, how sad, and thank you for letting me know. I have his little Perfume handbook. I am trying to find an obit or anything else online so I can post about it, but no luck so far.

Hello Robin,

I have sad news about Australian author John Oakes. His publisher, Random House have informed me he passed away a few weeks ago.

John was passionate about perfume and wrote “All about perfume” as well as other books on the subject.

We are much the poorer without him.

Top notes rather heavy & herbal, base rather dark with lots of patchouli. Doesn't suit me; I prefer the simplicity of things like Tam Dao, but if you like something more complicated, you might love it.

Has any one tried Sandalo by Villoresi? I am curious to know how it compares to other sandalwood scents.

It is interesting that this is the first time they've given it to someone “outside” of the big fragrance & flavor houses. Will have to review Donna soon, it is a lovely scent.

LV is truly one of my favorite living perfumers. I don't know what I would do without Teint de Neige and Donna, as well as his room fragrance oils.
