I think this is a genuinely lovely idea. I'm really impressed that Le Labo are opening their store for workshops. They will have to pay staff and rent for the day they're open, but won't be able to recoup any money - so this is solely for the benefit of their customers. True, it's possible that anyone who attends the workshops will be impressed and come back the next day to buy stuff, but I don't see a problem with that. If a company is prepared to go out of its way to provide me with excellent service - like offering free workshops with no pressure to buy (in fact, the opposite) - I'm more than happy to thank them with my custom at a later date. Admittedly, this might not be the pure spirit of anti-capitalism. But, bearing in mind that all private companies are inherently capitalist, they can't really pretend to be Che Guevara for a day. I'm happy for them to use Buy Nothing Day as an excuse to do something positive for their customers. I'd rather that, anyway, than have them preach self-righteously to me that spending money on their products is saving the Third World, like some I could mention... *cough* The Body Shop *cough* Gosh, why the negativity?
