I tried this recently and really loved it. I'm realising that Pepper, Vetiver and Cumin are notes that work on me! It really reminded me of Mechant Loup, for some reason - maybe the pepperiness?

I have a big problem with Vetiyer by PdN. It has a strong repulsive odor on my skin after 10 minutes and continues for an hour which I dont have with other vetiver scents. It smells like medicine mixed with something sweet ( weird concoction) even in the drydown which I dont like when am working in the office :( I hope its just me.... but I am usually a vetiver fan. Not this one though. Sorry :(

Hmmm...the Guerlain has lots of citrus, but I don't think it overpowers. If you get a chance to try it, come back and tell me how it compares and I'll see what else I can come up with.

Thanks! I'll look for some Guerlain and give it a try. I would say that C&E's old Vetiver is pretty balanced between earthy and clean, especially after dry-down when it might a touch more earthy. it might have some tobacco blossom to it, too, but i am not an experienced "nose." The Roger & Gallet was disappointing to me, though i like citrus, it overpowers the vetiver, and when it dries, it seems to have that old-man tone that i can't quite identify (bergamot?)..... thanks for the guidance!

George, Would you call it clean, or earthy, or maybe both?

And have you ever smelled Guerlain Vetiver, and can you tell me how it compares? (And by the way, if you haven't, that is the first place I'd start my search. It is one of the best out there).

it begins with a top note that is almost blueberry, but quickly mellows to vetiver and some other woodsy tones. it is more woodsy than spicy. i was wrong about the exact name, too, it is C & E's Vetiver Cologne.

thanks!

I am so sorry, but I've never tried the C&E so I don't know what it is like. Can you describe it at all?

There are links to some other vetiver reviews at the bottom of this one:

http://www.nstperfume.com/blog/_archives/2006/5/9/1941772.html

and another fairly new one is Paul Smith Story:
