Ho, hum on Mona di Orio. I received a sample of Nuit Noire while I was having a smelling-impaired few weeks. All I could detect was a heavy-duty perfumey 'feel', like carbolic soap. As my sense of smell returned to normal, I reached eagerly for my sample…..but it was just as before! Very heavy and dense, with no top notes that I can detect. On me it smells like liquified rubber. I'm stunned at the rave reviews – how can my nose be so at odds with everyone else? I wish I could detect what others can!

Thank you so much for the info, Robin! Intrigued by Montale's Greyland, but really reallllllly excited about Chypre Vanilla. Do you know of where I could purchase samples from Montale?

Hey R, sadly, I really didn't love any of the 3. But others do, so they are certainly worth a try!

Whatever you're missing, I'm missing too. Not my favorite line, although admittedly much of my disappointment was due to the fact that she is said to have been a protege of Edmond Roudnitska, but the fragrances are in an entirely different, more classical style.

You can order samples from Aedes, or possibly directly from Montale.

That was my reaction to Nuit Noire as well. I thought that it was lacking polish and harmony. Lux is pretty, but a bit conventional. I did like Carnation and found it very well-done, but after using up my sample, I still do not feel like I would rush out to purchase a full bottle. Maybe, like R, I had very high expectations for these fragrances.
