What I want for Christmas

Answer: any of the fragrances mentioned in this article in the Times Online. Columnist Lucia van der Post talks to Roja Dove, “whose jewel of an Haute Parfumerie in Harrods, Knightsbridge, is a must-visit place for anybody with an interest in scent”. He recommends some worthy fragrances for holiday gifts; among the choices: Diorama and Diorling. I'll take one of each.

R., and I will take Fille d’Eve by Nina Ricci, “with unusual haunting cedar note”. I want it, want it!

It's a sad state of affairs when I see that Diorling is 51 pounds and immediately feel shocked that it's so cheap and that I can't pass up a scent at that price. It really does sound amazing, though and I *really* want to retry Le Dix and Farouche now.

LOL — I'll take them all, I guess.

That was my reaction too, sadly — that the price seemed reasonable.

I seem to remember that Luca Turin had less than kind things to say about the current formulations of Diorling & Diorama, but as I've never smelled the originals I'm sure they would be fine with me.

I have Diorama and love it. When I visited his Parfumerie I tested the Diorling and to my nose it is a fabulous leather scent. I don't care what LT says, they are beautiful IMO.

One thing to remember is that both Diorama and Diorling come in traditional sprinkle type bottles so you would need a small atomiser unless you like to douse yourself with the scents.

B, thanks for commenting, I am seriously considering buying one or the other. Next year, after my wallet has recovered.

All of them. I want all of them. (With any luck, decants will turn up soon on eBay.) I have Diorella, one of Chandler Burr's “weird” scents — as I recall he described it as “mint toothpaste on a mink coat.” Maybe, but the drydown is ravishing. I have a wee bottle of Le Dix on the way, only the EDT which I hear isn't as nice…

M, that Chandler Burr remark is still a complete puzzle to me. I get nothing like that. Not even close. Then again, I've never really smeared mint toothpaste on a mink coat, since I don't have one. The coat, that is :-)
